If the Jacksonville Jaguars are looking to trade down from pick No. 5 in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft, did the New Orleans Saints at pick No. 9 just become a more likely trade partner?
The general consensus seems to be that there may not be many teams looking to trade up in the early going of this year's draft. But the Saints could potentially be one of those teams with the uncertainty they have at quarterback.
It was reported by multiple outlets on Friday that the 2025 season is in jeopardy for Saints' quarterback Derek Carr due to a shoulder injury.
If Carr is going to be out, the Saints have two options. They could roll into the 2025 season with either Spencer Rattler or Jake Haener at quarterback, or look to address the need in this year's draft.
With it looking like Cam Ward will be going No. 1 overall to Tennessee, Shedeur Sanders becomes the next option for New Orleans at quarterback. And to ensure that they get him, instead of hoping he is still there at pick No. 9, perhaps the Saints look to move up, which is where the Jaguars come into play.
Like every team, the Jaguars have needs to address, but with 10 draft picks, they also have flexibility, which means they have options and could entertain trading down from pick No. 5.
So if that deal were to happen between the two teams, what might it look like?
Using the Jimmy Johnson trade value chart as our guide, the Jaguars could land picks 9 (1350) and 40 (500), while giving up picks 5 (1700) and 88 (150).
Obviously, there are a lot of moving parts when it comes to any sort of draft day trade potentially happening, but how the Saints go about handling the unknowns at quarterback could impact the Jaguars.
