Amare has been voted a starter in the NBA All-Star game in Phoenix. Also I can see Shag being selected to be on the All-Star roster. If Phoenix were to decide to trade one of these players would they do it before the February 15th game? Also the NBA trading deadline is February 19th. So if the Suns continue to falter, would Kerr make the move before the All-Star game? It could be awkward. However, if the Suns continue to slip in the rankings, I don't think they can wait until after the All-Star game to make a move.

Well it would be weird for Amar'e to be a starter and be traded from his team that is hosting the allstar game. They will probably do it after or a week before.

If they continue to stink, trade them. What are we doing if we don't trade them? Keeping these guys around for another year for them to "gel"?

I think it's more a problem with coaching rather than a players not being good. Amare should be getting more shots with the ball going to Shaq in the low post. However, they never let Amare be where Shaq can pass to him for his 18 foot automatic jumper. Plus Amare could drive the lane after getting a Shaq pass. Instead they keep him weak side and out of the play all together. I think if Jerry Sloan ever had Shaq with Karl Malone, he would have figured how to run an offense using both of them on the floor at the same time! ;)

You have a valid point. I don't think Amare is happy with his role. He doesn't seem to know where his shots are going to come on the court.

He mentioned that a while ago and things never changed. He talked about how he got inconsistent passes at different times where he isn't ready for them. I see that when sometimes they won't pass it to him for a while and then randomly just toss it to him after he gets zoned out. I still haven't seen Porter make a play just for Amar'e to get a shot. Actually i've only see Porter make one play that worked and another that failed and made J-rich take a tough shot.

'Effect' is right.

No it isn't.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/affect

Affect (verb)- to act on; produce an effect or change in
EX) Cold weather affected the crops.

Obviously the starter of this thread meant to say "Could the all-star game produce an effect or change in a phoenix trade?"

Effect is almost always used as a noun. like side-effects, my personal effects, etc.

Thanks.

Eesh. I'm all for correcting grammar, but you really should know what you're talking about first.

From the same source you just quoted, dictionary.com:

ef-fect
...

–verb (used with object) 10. to produce as an effect; bring about; accomplish; make happen: The new machines finally effected the transition to computerized accounting last spring.

This was the meaning I assumed the original poster intended.

You're welcome.

I don't think he meant at all to say "Will the all star game "bring about, make happen, or accomplish" a trade?". I think he meant to ask if the game will change a potential trade as amare has been voted a starter. Why would him being voted a starter bring about or make a trade happen? that doesn't make any sense to me. Asking if a trade would be changed or altered (affected) by the all-star games does make sense.

I think the following point supports my point:

Well it would be weird for Amar'e to be a starter and be traded from his team that is hosting the allstar game. They will probably do it after or a week before.

Actually, either is correct. While it's true that affect is most often a verb and effect is most often a noun, both can be used as either.

after elindholm mentioned his point, i suppose it is true that either is grammatically correct. It seemed to me that "affected" would've reflected what the author wanted to say better than "effected". Either way, moot point.

Grammar snobs should be banned for one month. There is no place in sports talk for these individuals.

I think it could change the time frame of any trade. It's good PR for them to have 2 All-Stars representing their team in their city in the ASG. I think anything possibly done with Amare will be done after the game. Not so sure it will be Shaq who's traded.
