Could The Suns Trade for the Rights to YI?

Just a thought.

If Yi would be agreeable to play in Phoenix, I would be willing make a nice offer to the Bucks for his rights. Maybe he was one of those lottery type players Phoenix wanted anyway. I don't know what it would take but I'm sure the Bucks would want the Atlanta pick next year, the Suns #1 and at least something more, hopefully perhaps a player like Diaw or someone else. Anyway, if I were Phoenix I would make a strong run at him because he could be the Suns SF of the future. I really like what I have seen of him. And his style of would seem to fit Phoenix perfectly.

we're a contender so we're in the public eye much more and we have a style that would fit his game. i think that's what would be the difference.

Yi worked out for Phoenix which says a lot. He didn't workout for the Bucks. I think his representatives think Phoenix's style of play would fit Yi perfectly which I think would overcome many of the other influences.

This is not true anymore, there is a budding China town in Chandler and there has been a great shift in population from the San Fransisco Bay area. I work with an Asian guy and he said it's just crazy how many asians are moving here

The bigger problem is Yi's handlers want him to start on a major market team. They don't care if the team is good or not. They just want him to be visible on national television and become a commodity. They're not just looking at the size of the market, but the demographics. Phoenix is not a Top 10 market so they did not get put on the "preferred" team list. They also do not have any starting positions to promise.

Trust me, this has more to do with marketing than race relations.

If the Lakers had any room to maneuver here, I would peg them as the No. 1 choice, particularly with Kobe on the same team.

I'm not entirely clear why Sacramento is so high on their list, although they have had Chinese living there for 160 years.

In any case, I think they know he would not play much if at all on the Suns.

I think Bucks signed Williams and Mason back. I guess for starting salaries of 6.5-7 mil per. This would make them at about 53 mil. So, Marion for Simmons and right to Yi might work just fine. With Mason back, they really don't need Simmons anymore. Even if Marion just opts out next year, they'd get a huge cap instead Simmons eating up 10 mil for two more seasons.

Bogut/Villanova/Marion/Redd/Williams with Mason as 6th man is a very promising lineup indeed.

well based on his summer play i wouldnt give up anything more then banks and the suns own draft pick next year. this guy shot fg 25% over the summer. now for a 7ft i would think that would sent up a number of red flags.

um, they have one of the best shooters in the game with Redd and Mo Williams was in the top ten in both scoring and assts for all PG. Are you sure you're looking at the Bucks roster?

Everything I have seen of Yi points out that he is not a big stiff. Could he be a bust? Absolutely. He might even be another Skita. However, I believe he played with the Chinese team in summer league which IMO isn't a good gauge of his ability. Now if he played for the Suns summer league team and showed nothing, then I might begin to worry. Anyway, I bet the Bucks are still looking for fair value in a trade on an unproven player which may be hard. I'm wondering if they will find a taker at the price they may want. I wouldn't mind seeing Yi in a Suns uniform if the deal were right and the Suns liked him. I wouldn't trade Marion for him though.

Based on the 3 CBA games I've seen him play and limited internaitonal play, this is all I'd give up too(mainly to get rid of Banks' contract).
