I wanted Sam Darnold...would have trade three firsts to get him in fact.... would have traded a couple firsts and thirds to get Baker Mayfield...and I would have been fine sitting at 15 and taking Lamar Jackson.

throughout this entire process what I didnt want was Josh Rosen. Not for any football reasons really because he is the most polished and pro ready QB in the draft. But because of concussions, shoulder surgery, and personality.

I have to admit that I had been warming to the kid a little this past week. Seeing him interact with Aaron Rodgers on path to the draft. At first I thought I was seeing a kid who was intimidated. But after watching more I realized I was seeing a kid who was in awe of his hero. I had to ask myself how I could question the passion for the game in a kid who is awestruck by hanging out with his football hero. I am fifty years old next month and I am pretty sure I would be in awe of hanging out with Aaron Rodgers...just like I was 28 years ago when I met Dan Majerle.

Like you I was watching the draft when the Raiders came on the clock. As the announcers were discussing that the Raiders may be thinking of trading the tenth pick I saw the bid board behind him go red...and the Cards logo float across the screen. I aint gonna lie fellas. It brought tears to my eyes and I said..."we are getting Josh Rosen"

I am a little embarrassed about the tears honestly, lol. But never as a sports fan have I ever felt such relief. Not excitement, relief. We finally got our guy. He wasnt my guy but he is our guy. Make no mistake about it Josh Rosen was absolutely Steve Keims guy. He may have liked Darnold like I did. He may have liked Mayfield like so many of us did. But Josh Rosen was his guy all along. When you hear him say it in the press conference make sure you believe it because it's true.

Look at all the QB's who have started for us in the Keim era. Smart, accurate pocket passers. Then look at who we have as a starter right now. A guy with no wheels. We needed a smart accurate guy who can learn the offense and be ready to play this year. Josh Rosen is the only QB in the draft who fits that bill with certainty. He was the safest pick at QB.

All of that said. Josh Rosen is now my guy. For the first time since Jake Plummer I am going to buy a jersey with a quarterbacks name on it. I cant wait. I wanted Keim to identify his guy and do what he had to in order to go get his guy. That is exactly what he did.

so now the countdown to the Josh Rosen era of the Birdgang. 5,......4,......3,....2,......

Whew!

Thought last night was just a dream.

My bar buddies knew it was Rosen as soon as the trade was announced.

Great day to be a Cardinal fan!!!

I know ARZ needs a #2 CB and maybe another S, but I hope ARZ loads up on OL & offensive weapons the rest of the draft as building blocks for Rosen. If I’m Keim I go get DRC now. You get DRC with PP and FA signings Benewike (sp??) and Williams and you have a veteran two deep.

DRC is still available? If so I go get him.

Oaken, first of all. NEVER apologize for shedding tears for anything Cardinals related, and second I agree with you that Keim is to be lauded. I really wanted Lamar, but I trust Kiem/Wilks, etc. to do what's best for the team. I feel good not questioning the aptitude of our front office, unlike years ago, when we were first hand witnesses to a constant crap show on draft day. I'm excited!

I hear you Oak. I have had Rosen in my top-3, but never thought Keim would pull the trigger. When I saw the trade come up, I went crazy -- we did it. Also thought we made a great trade keeping our 2nd round pick. Would love to see a playmaking WR or Solid CB in the second.

One thing I like about Rosen is that he is extremely tough. Reminds me a lot of Warner and Palmer in that. He will leave blood, sweat and tears on the field. I really any objections to this pick will be gone by next year.

Great post Oaken. Like you I was watching the screen listening to the babble of the experts, and saw the screen go red. My son and I started jumping around the room. Wish I had a video of that. Then, we both sat quietly waiting for Goodell to actually say Josh Rosen, not wanting to speak the words "what if they pick someone else". Kind of like watching the 20 yard game winning Field Goal, knowing it's pretty likely to be good, but you just don't know until it actually goes through and there are no flags.

considering how many foolish trades were going on in this draft Keim made an outstanding deal. I am proud of the guy for that. The meat of this draft is in the first three rounds and he kept us in both the second and third rounds.
next I would kinda like him to trade away our day three picks to move up, lol... rather have three or four solid players... those third day guys are usually prospects.

if we get a center an OT and a wr I would be happy

Cheese and I had similar responses as it unfolded in my living room.

Why did you not buy at least a Warner jersey?

for those listening to the 98.7 feed: Wolfley, Bickley, Burns, Gambo, some others..

so some long time local guys --- and they had the same thought: "this has to be Josh Rosen........right?"

Even they considered the possibility, however low, that the pick could be "and with the 10th pick the Cardinals select.............. Mike Hughes, CB, UCF"

Yeah. Last night was freaking great. I don’t even remember the last time I watched the draft but I just knew deep inside this team had to do SOMETHING at QB with all these guys in the mix. So I made it a point to get down and watch it with Ouch.

When that screen went red... and Rosen was still there... man, that was great. Just great.

was watching NFLN and the guy said something that surprised me.

he said he hears we will be running open competition for the starting QB spot.

considering its an entirely new offense for all of our QB's... I think Rosen has a fair shot of actually starting week 1

I mean, I wouldnt start him until Bradfords knee goes in week two....but with open competition he has a chance

The countdown to the Rosen era started three years ago, according to Keim. That is when then-UCLA OC Noel Mazzone pointed out his young QB to the AZ GM and said he'd be a legit star.

I really hope he doesn't start week 1. If not, why did we spend $20 million on Bradford?

Let him sit half the year at least to learn.
