Kolb is very good, very excited about him being a Cardinal now, you never know for sure but he's got all we need.
Cam is a ton better than I ever thought he'd be. If I ever said he wasn't worth the pick I was wrong.
He's going to be good simply because he can throw so far downfield so well, it stretches the field and keeps the defense honest. He had poise, didn't make bad throws, had a lot of drops, glad we don't play him again.
The decision to defer after we won the toss was stupid, and in most cases it's stupid, please stop this. It SCREWS UP THE POSESSIONS and with that extra possesion in the first half Carolina got a TD, stop it please.
Beanie looked very good other than the fumble on the pitch.
Overall I'm excited about the team.
Oh and DRC who?
LOL!!!!
An unacknowledged good guy IMHO is LRSH. That guy time after time is the first guy down on kickoffs or punts to make the tackle. I sure would like to see his stats on that but he never seems to get the recognition he deserves for this. I know he is fast but seems to have the nose for the ball and the runner and is not afraid to put his nose in the pack.
Newton is much better than I thought he would be. No dancing feet. Good at escaping and big enough to see over everyone. I think he is destined for good things. It is not so much how many yards he threw but his on field presence that impressed me. This in his first game in the NFL. He looks like a good pick at #1 to me. I would not have made that pick but after one game I think I may have been wrong. He did learn that defenders are faster in the NFL and he is not going to be able to run as often as he did in college. Looks like he will be a lot of running from the 1 yard line with that big body.

I know there have been a lot of post concerning Peterson's TD when he was clear and was hot dogging it before crossing the goal line and nearly got caught. You can be sure he will not be doing that anytime soon again. The coaches will eat him out over this. He came really close to getting caught and could have cost us a TD and possible the game. That should be no part of any players celebration. I have seen two games where players made such mistakes and lost a touchdown and the ball. I found nothing funny about this. I hope Peterson learns a lesson from this and from the coaches. It was almost pure luck he looked around and so a fast closing enemy on his butt and kicked it into gear. Super play Patrick but remember you are a #1 pick in the NFL. You could have turned into a goat for the rest of the year and perhaps you career if that play had gone bad. Otherwise you are a hero of sorts. Entire seasons can turn on a play like this. We were only 1-2 steps from disaster. I bet fans a players on the sidelines were screaming their lungs out to run run run. Never look back so the saying goes or someone might be gaining on you. In this case a good thing he did look back. I would love to be in the film room when this play was run for the team. You can bet the coaches were not laughing.
I recall one NFL play where the runner spiked the ball about 1 yard before he crossed the goal line and the other team recovered it in the end zone. Strangely I do not recall his name. Perhaps he was not in the league much longer.

Wasn't that DeSean Jackson?
Nope it was Plaxico Burress his rookie year.

Jackson had one also. He flipped the ball behind himself right before he crossed the goal line. Can't say which game where it happened but I remember watching the play.

Is that you Ziva David?

Lol. It took me a moment to catch the NCIS reference. When you only hear a name like that it seems strange to finally see it written down.
Steve
I haven't seen the snap count yet, but I'm watching the replay and Carter's seeing way more time in the end of first/start of second quarter.
He's pretty disruptive, beating the man one-on-one, but isn't command doubles and they're shifting to double the playside end.
The only time I really noticed Dan Williams is when Kalil (sp) blew him up on a rush left.

Conrad, have to disagree with your defer comment, BIG TIME. It resulted in us getting great field position and led to our first score. Of course we didn't know that Cam would be this good, but having him start about the ten was a great strategy. And personally, I like having the ball to start the second half. JMO.
1: Kolb taking credit for Beanie missing the pitch in the post game. He said that he can't throw it at his hip, and it won't happen again. Leadership and personal accountability like this will trickle down to the rest of the team.
2: Wells runs with terrible balance and has terrible feet. He lacks the ability to stick his foot in the ground and change direction. Several receptions the he had today would have gone for more yardage, but he couldn't change direction and ended up running out of bounds.
3: Levi Brown is really bad.
4: Daryl Washington was playing fast today, and it's because he is getting this defense. He may still lack the size to shut plays down at point of attack, but in a passing league, I'll take his quickness in coverage and in blitzing.
5: Patrick Peterson is going to be real good. While he gave up catches, he also seemed to be in the right area and almost made some good plays on the ball. Like Washington, as he gets more comfortable his speed will startto really show.
We sure have a lot of bad Beenie post this week. He sounds like Beenie from hell. I think he averaged 4-5 yds a carry and looked to me like he was hitting the line hard unlike last year. Without him keeping the defense honest with the runs we probably do not win that game. He is the only true RB we have and we better address that very quick as he cannot last a full season carrying the ball 90% of all carries. Surely the staff must know that??????? I think everyone on this board knows that. Even if we have to trade we need a second RB soon. Real soon. Even sooner than that. Most all NFL teams now carry two very good RB's.
In difference to all the anti Beenie post we did win the game. Kolb appeared to me to be more comfortable running out of the pocket even when he was not pressured. The announcers said Carolina had three very good LB's. I think Carolina is going to win at least 8 games with their RB's, Smith, and Newton. This is not last years Panthers. Glad we got past them in our first game. After watching our defense I can see a lot of blitzes coming this year. Hope GB is no on our schedule as blitzing them is sudden death.

There have been a lot of comments about our D in this game and giving up so many yards to a rookie but I think the Carolina offense is very under-rated.
Very good Oline, 2 excellent RBs , 2 excellent TEs, Steve Smith ( say no more about him) and Newton who was the icing on the cake in this game for them.
So there were a lot of things for our new DC , and depleted secondary to think about.
It worked out just OK ! Room for improvement definitely but the front 7 played well ( Williams especially) and the CBs will get better game by game.
We need to brush up on our Red zone offense though. Had we have come away with any points in those 2 first half trips, it would have been a different game and a different Newton.
And maybe someone could find the page in the playbook marked ' Fade to Fitz' . I miss that play.
