jw7 is the only one I have seen that gets faster then mine. I must be the only one in my area with Cox Internet. I have the premiere service BTW.

More then likely, they cap the bandwidth to each individual workstation. Most companies do that.

I think I have the record:

Home - old computer being replaced by a notebook. Direct connection from Cox.

New computer in transition - notebook, wireless router connection using a D-link.

Yikes. I think they just put through my order for the slower speed.

What happened? Did you downgrade, then upgrade?

Yep, dropped down to their "economy" service which is supposed to be 1.5, then back to the Preferred which is supposedly 9.

I'm convinced I am the only one within 20 miles who has high speed internet. I get faster speeds than at my business and I pay a few hundred dollars a month for it

I had to upgrade back to the medium tier 'Preferred' or whatever it is. I couldn't do any streaming or downloading of any sort really. Tis a shame.

Like many others, I'm trying to scale back some monthly costs. I like to DL shows, movies, and DLC plus the occasional online RB2. I'm sure surfing and email will be no problem but do you think preferred will do the job, especially for gaming? I've never had any issues with premier but $13/month price difference adds up.

If you do ANY type of sustained downloading, (music, online gaming, streaming movies, etc) you can't have their cheapest service. If you only surf the net and check email, things like that. Then you can have their minimal service.

I usually have the best connection with online gaming when I am with a group of my friends. Preferred should be enough.

I used to be a Cable America customer, who was bought out by Cox, so I still have a grandfathered rate. I never knew this until I cancelled my phone and the bill started coming just as internet. I pay $29.99 a month for this.....
