Phoenix today traded winger Tyson Nash and a 4th round draft pick to Toronto for backup goaltender Mikael Tellqvist. They didn't give up very much, but I would have much rather give LeNeveu a handful of starts so he can show what he is capable of rather than playing a guy with much lower upside. Mikael Tellqvist is a career backup, but given how Gretzky inexplicably chastised LeNeveu (even though he has a higher save percentage than Cujo), a trade was pretty much inevitable.

Interesting article. With a handful of players being called up from San Antonio already this season, including Gratton, it was pretty obvious that Nash wouldn't see any time as a Coyote unless half the forwards were injured.

Probably best for Nash to go somewhere where he has a chance to be called up to the NHL.

I don't know how decent Tellqvist will be. He was the 3rd string goaltender in Toronto. The Coyotes need a guy who can start 1/3 of the games for them.

On another note, I saw Boston called up Sauve for a game before sending him back down to the minors.

Other interesting developments . . .

Boynton out 3-4 weeks with a fractured foot, Coyotes recall Roche from San Antonio, Coyotes assign LeNeveu to San Antonio.

I guess Tellqvist is the backup now.

Other interesting reprocussions from this:

Down in San Antonio, they now have LeNeveu, Morrison, and Tordjman.

Tordjman has been playing pretty well with a 2.58 GAA in 5 games.

Morrison has an 11.01 GAA in 2 games.

I have to assume Morrison will be gone soon.

Boynton out 3 or 4 weeks really hurts. The injuries just keep on coming. He supposedly has been playing with this injury for close to three weeks now. I am a bit surprised that Roche gets the call up rather than Yandle, but it looks like the team wanted somebody more defensively responsible than Yandle. Nevertheless, I am guessing it won't be too long before Yandle gets another crack at the NHL.

Gretzky is apparently giving all these guys a shot. They sent Jones back down and I figured Jones, Yandle, and Spiller would be the first three to get called back up. Now you mix Roche into the equation.

Although Jones isn't flashy, he's been the most solid at the NHL level.

I suppose, but Roche doesn't really have much of an NHL future unlike the other guys.

Interestingly enough, Toronto already assigned Tyson Nash to the AHL. Kinda funny, given the backhanded comment Nash made after the trade and how he was happy that he was going to a team that would "give him a chance to get back to the NHL."

Only problem with San Antonio is that they are about as horrible as the Coyotes. I was looking at some of the games. Last Tuesday they played the Houston Aeros and won 4-2, yet they were outshot 57-24. Tordjman stopped 55 of 57 shots.

I agree about Travis Roche, though. He's only played in about 10 NHL games over the course of the last 6 years. But, he does lead San Antonio defensemen in scoring with 1 goal and 8 assists in 17 games.

How Pat Conacher still has a job amazes me. He's run the Yotes AHL team for the last three years and they have always been either dead last or close to it. He's never had the talent to be a top team in the league, but there's no excuse for being continually that bad.

Maybe it goes hand in hand. San Antonio is the 2nd worse team in the AHL. The worst is the Syracuse Crunch, minor league affiliate to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The best team is the Rochester Americans, affiliates to the Sabres. I guess when you have depth, you are good.
