It's funny going back and reading threads like this.
I worked at Cracker Barrel. (extra money as a waiter while the ex was pregnant)
Hey, me too. Had to pick up a job there for about 6 months while my business was slowing down. I had made plans a month or so before I was hired for Thanksgiving. As it turns out, EVERYONE had to work on Thanksgiving. Well, I couldn't break these plans so I no-showed, even after practically begging to get the day off. (Which, ironically, they ended up calling 2 people on Thanksgiving morning and giving them the day off.)
I was essentially taken off the schedule and never put back on. But management kept telling me for about a month that I'd be back on the schedule "next week." Never happened, and I eventually stopped caring. Fortunately business has been going pretty well ever since.
And in regards to the food - It was pretty much average. Just quick, cheap, food that is rushed out as fast as possible. It was actually part of our job to make sure guests didn't stick around. We were instructed to drop the check 5 minutes after the guests got their meal.
