I found it obvious, over the top and self-indulgent. Some good performances, but waisted on tripe.

More than one critic/agency has put this movie on its worst 10 of the year list.... While perhaps not that bad, it still isn't worth much, IMHO.

Am I the only one who thinks the movie is not that great?

My friend lend me the movie. He told me it's one of the best movies he's seen.

Well, I thought the movie was ok. I get the point of the movie but I feel the director tried too hard to bring out the points. It's just like those crappy scary movies that were made just to scare you and it's not even all that scary because it's too predictable/generic. That's the feeling I got after watching Crash. The part I hate the most is when the father (whose store got robbed) went after the locksmith and shot him with a blank. I KNEW exactly that is going to happen and I thought it dragged way too long. And that little girl is annoying... but it's just me. "I need to protect daddy...." it's amazing how a little girl knows what that gun can do on her daddy.

I haven't seen any other nominated Best Films but if Crash is the best movie, then this is definitely a sad year.

Congrats to Crash...it deserved the win. I loved the look on everyone's faces when it won, totally unexpected.

And it just reminded me how stellar that cast was, with all of them up and hugging each other. Ryan Phillipe looked like a kid in school. Good for that family...his pic wins Best Picture, and his wife wins Best Actress.

I heard it on Howard Stern show that many people predicted Broken Back Mountain would win since it won in Golden Global? I need to rent it when it comes out then.

They had just moved out of the ghetto, away from gun violence and crime to a better life. She knew exactly what guns can do...in fact she was scared of bullets flying into her room, which is why he gave her the magic cape.

Just because she's a little girl doesn't mean she doesn't know firsthand what guns can do to people, especially in the neighborhood they moved from.

Amen to that. I thought that storyline was the most thought-provoking and interesting (which is saying a lot because I thought all the storylines were great).

What a tour de force, and, although I have yet to see Brokeback Mountain, totally deserving of Best Picture. This is the gritty version of a Robert Altman film. Terrific cast, playing against type. These types of movies are EXTREMELY difficult to make, because of the amount of characters, and every one is more than just a cardboard cutout--phenomenal writing.

I do have to put in a word about the editing, which was incredible. With many, many storylines, it is VERY hard to get anything coherent--I would imagine post-production was easily the longest process in the making of the film.

Just saw this this evening. (Yeah, so I'm late to the party). Thought it was a good movie, even though I dislike both Dillon and Bullock. At least it was something different.

And the first time those two jack a car... had me fooled. :)

possibly the most heavy handed, ham-fisted pieces of crap ever to grace the silver screen and definitely the worst movie to ever win Best Picture at the Oscars IMO.

You're just bitter that your favorite movie (Brokeback) got beat out by this great flick.

Cheese and I are in agreement here. i thought the screenplay was awful. No one really talks like that! NO ONE! And while I admired the intent of the film, Ive never been so smacked in the face by a message since god knows when. Its like the filmmaker thought the average IQ of his audience was well below that of a small soap dish. Enough already!

good one. Brokeback was breathtaking from a cinematography standpoint and the acting was top-notch, but it was a bit of a snoozer IMO.

that whole year stunk as far as best picture nominees IIRC.

I hear ya, Brokeback Mountain, Capote, Crash, Good Night & Good Luck, and Munich were pretty weak overall.

I was surprised to not see Walk the Line in the list.

I really dug good night and good luck, but I agree a fairly weak class in terms of Best Picture noms that year. And I thought Munich was very good as well.

i agree, but still none of them just pop out and scream excellence to me like a Best Picture should. Same goes for this year when they awarded the entire ceremony over to Marty as a makeup lifetime achievement award for probably his safest/most mediocre piece of work he's ever put out.

Yep. This year, Letters from Iwo Jima would have been my pick had I seen it before the Oscars.

totally agree. Hell, Babel, Children of Men, Pan's Labrynth, Blood Diamond, Dreamgirls, Apocalypto and even The Freaking Devil Wears Prada were much more impressive to me than Marty-lite.

come to think of it, in retrospect, last year was a pretty damn good year for feature films, which makes the token presentation of multiple Oscars to The Departed even more a slap in the face to Scorcese IMO.

I was just glad that Brokeback didn't win. Thought it was way overrated. All the Brokeback hype leading up to the oscars was getting sickening.

The Departed was a great movie..not sure about token anything!

I hear you. I loved the Departed from start to finish. I'm still waiting for the Infernal Affairs trilogy to be released in HD. They released the 1st movie in Asia.
