Let me start off by saying that I like Marcel Shipp. I really do. I think he is an above average running back. Great vision, good power, great reciever, decent speed, health is a concern. With Shipps style, he will always be battling injuries and will miss a few games a year almost every year. I have this crazy idea about what we should do with our #1 pick. Trade it to Carolina for Deshawn Foster (sp?). I really really really think that Foster could be THE BEST RB IN THE LEAUGE. Carolina would be stupid to trade him to us for our #1, but you never know. They do Have a good RB in Stephen Davis. This year, Foster has been mostly a backup, but watching a few Carolina games and watching Foster when he gets his carries, I always find myself saying, "WOW! THAT GUY CAN PLAY!" He has it all, speed, power, quickness, the ability to make several tacklers miss, vision, hands. He is simply amazing. He would make our offense good to great faster than any rookie would be able to unless we gt lucky and draft someone who is ready for the pro-bowl right off the bat. Even then, it would be a wash. I say take the guy who is a proven stud rather than drafting someone who has the POTENTIAL to be a stud. Now, before you jump on my back for questioning Shipp's durability and saying we should get Foster, yes I am aware that Foster had a season ending knee injury last season. But, when compaired to Shipp, Foster's running style is much more friendly on his body. He just knows how to run. Like an emmitt smith, he is always avoiding the hard hits and in the long run, he should have a longer career than Shipp. Again, I really like Shipp, but I LOVE Foster. There is not a RB in the NFL, right now that I enjoy watching more. IMO, he is probably the best RB in the NFL. Just wait until he gets his chance to carry the full load. You will all see what I mean. Foster would upgrade our team, and I'm all for that. I'd feel bad for Shipp, but I want this team to be as good as possible, and that means doing whatever it takes to get great players in here. Foster fits that mold.

Sorry man, I live here in Carolina, and he's not going anywhere. They (the Panthers) love him as much as you. They only signed Davis because they weren't sure about Foster's ability to come back from the knee surgery.

The thing about Foster is that when they put him in, they do not have to change any plays because of him. Granted he likes to bounce it outside more, whereas Davis likes to run between the tackles, but they both have the physical makeup to run the same plays.

I believe as long as Fox is the coach and he has a penchant for the running game, they will keep both.

I agree with you totally though. I think he is a better back (physically gifted-wise) than Davis. I love watching him run.

No way is he the best back in the NFL...

That title goes to Jamal Lewis. Let's not jump the gun here. Foster is an exciting runner, and anyone who watched him throughout his career (at Carolina and UCLA) will agree with that.

But the best back in the NFL???? He hasn't even had a single 1,000 yard season. While your at it, why not say that McCown is the best QB in the NFL. :p

LaDanian Tomlinson might have something to say about that...Priest Holmes as well.

That Foster did look good in the playoff games, especially for a young guy.

But I hope they don't do a trade like that. With Shipp, Smith, and Scobey they are at least solid at RB. There are so many other positions that desperately need to be upgraded and can be with the #3 overall.

Here's hoping for franchise player on defense with the #3 pick.

I agree with this entire statement but would like to add that Foster's bouncing outside or juking often causes him to come up short on short yardage running plays... There were at least two examples of this during the Eagles game before his hard earned TD run...

Good point. With those three, it's really a matter of preference.

I prefer Jamal Lewis, because I like bigger backs, but he is the whole package.

LT, IMO, will have the best career of the three.

Rephrase: Baltimore has the best OL in the NFL. You could drive a mack truck through the lanes they clear.

I love the guy, have for years, but there's not much precedent for a RB having had microfractures, it's really risky to assume Foster is going to have a long career at this point.

He does have that ability to slip tackles and avoid big hits, but everytime he cuts it's on a knee that has had 2 major surgeries on it.

McGahee would be an equal risk with maybe even more possible upside(faster before the injury).

The best back in the NFL (Marshall Faulk) was traded for a #1 and #2 I think. Why would anyone give up a top 3 pick for just Foster. Id love to have him but the deal would have to be Our #1 and #3 for Foster and their #1 im guessing. No way do we trade #3 for Foster straight up.

I'm almost positive the Rams only gave up a #2 pick for Faulk.I remember thinking why didn't Cards offer #2 and maybe a# 5 pick.

Heck yeah, Vince! Its all about the offensive line. Remember when Denver was churning out 1000 yard rushers awhile back? if we get our O-line to play up to their potential like Green hopes, we'll have that, too.
