Variety says Breck Eisner is returning to the director's chair to helm Universal's remake of Creature From the Black Lagoon, which Gary Ross is producing via his Larger Than Life production company.
The project is the second feature directing assignment for the son of the former Disney chief, who made his debut on last spring's Sahara.
Ross has written the current "Creature" draft, a present-day update of the 1954 monster classic. He has a particular interest in the project: His father, Arthur A. Ross, wrote the screenplay for the original.
The original introduced Gill Man, who terrorized archaeologists exploring in the Amazon. Plans for the update call for shooting in the U.S. as well as a Central or South American location.
