NEOSHO, Mo. — Crowder College's softball and baseball teams opened April on winning notes Tuesday. The softball team swept Jefferson College in a doubleheader in Hillsboro, and the baseball team earned a 14-4 run-rule win over Fort Scott Community College at home.
Roughrider softball claimed 8-2 and 7-4 wins to improve to 27-7 overall and 9-1 in Region 16.
Crowder got out to a 5-0 lead in Game 1 and outhit Jefferson 11-4. Four Roughriders logged multiple hits, including Katie Simpson and Jasmine Myers, who both finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run each. Brooke Beyer was 2 for 4, including a home run, with three RBIs and a run, and Evelyn Comstock was 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI.
The Roughriders fell behind 0-2 in Game 2 but rallied for the win. Callie Cooper led Crowder after going 3 for 4 at the plate. Beyer was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run and Simpson was 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI.
The baseball team claimed its fourth straight win and upped its record to 21-16 with the win.
The Roughriders held a 2-1 lead after three innings before combining for 9 more in the fourth and fifth frames to go up 11-1. FSCC added two runs in the top of the sixth and Crowder answered with a solo run in the bottom of the frame to make it a 12-3 game.
After Fort Scott plated a run in the top of the seventh, Crowder shortened the game in the bottom of the seventh with two runs to claim the 14-4 win.
Crowder baseball returns to action Thursday, traveling to West Plains for a doubleheader against Missouri State University West Plains.
Roughrider softball travels to St. Charles Community College on Saturday for a doubleheader.
