Hall of Famer
Figured I'd have one of the few positive threads during a tough week.
Tough loss, obviously. Managing expectations has become impossible due to Kyler's play. As a fan, even though I'm a huge Murray fan, he's further along than I thought he'd be, he's already elite in year 2. Depleted at corner, no Chandler Jones, this D is held together by scrubs and wishful thinking.
If we can set aside our record for a moment, and just look at how they PLAY, especially on offense, I think we have plenty to rejoice about. There's no doubt whatsoever we have our franchise QB. Having that be an open question depletes a team, paralyzes it--we don't have to even worry about that any longer.
We keep hearing players say, "I just wanna be great," ad nauseum. This team is still figuring itself out, they WANT to believe but aren't there yet. The fact that several players stomped off the field without shaking hands, including Fitz, is a GREAT sign.
Yes, we have holes, and coaching has made mistakes. But ALL coaches do. There's a lot of bad coaches in the NFL but players like Kyler mask deficiencies. Bill Belichik isn't suddenly a bad coach, he just doesn't have Tom brady. We can blame Kliff for things, sure, but this offense doesn't have elite talent, we didn't suddenly get HOFerrs on the Oline, Kirk isn't even a 2 on any other team, our TEs are average AT BEST. Kliff and Murray have the leagues best offense using average talent.
My expectations for this year have ALREADY been exceeded. We don't have a lot of talent, but we have it where it matters most.
