It's too bad that Curt Schilling can't enjoy his success with the Red Sox without dissing the D'backs.

As reported in today's Arizona Republic:

Not quite sure what to make of a comment Curt Schilling made in Boston after he and the rest of the Red Sox received their World Series rings on Monday.

According to the Boston Globe, Schilling wore his new ring on the same hand as the ring he received after helping the Diamondbacks beat the Yankees for the title in 2001.

The Globe reported that Schilling looked at Boston's ring, which is bigger, and called it "the A ring", then looked at Arizona's ring and called it "the B ring" ...

One Bank One Ballpark insider wasn't as gracious (as Luis Gonzalez, who reacted, "That's his opinion ..."), and offered the following zinger: "Ours has an A (on it) and theirs has a B.", he noted.

The (expletive) guy must be dyslexic."

Don't burn your bridges, Curt. Someday it may catch up with you.

screw both Curt and Randy. No need for that kind of crap after we resurrected both of their careers basically.

I'm sorry guys but if i helped a team end an 86 year "curse" in a city that lives and dies with their baseball team i would call it my A ring too. Boston fans will treat him like a god for the rest of his life because he came in and said he was gonna end the curse and he did. I can understand his thinking. I do however enjoy what the diamondback "insider" in the story said.

Media and readers making mountains outta molehills. Predictably, some people will get upset over trivia like this.

All it takes is an off the cuff remark, and the media play it up big time... and readers get off on it, just like the Hollywood gossip columns. Of course no one has any in depth article about this "issue" ... but people will interpret it the way THEY want, so those who want to see this as a "diss" will continue to believe that.

I imagine this ring is special to Curt, but I can't help but think that for anyone their first WS championship would be their most cherished. Doesn't mean he can't like both rings, though.

i really have mixed feelings about this.

on one hand i understand that he really didnt want to leave arizona, and that he was part of a financial move. i'd be pissed if i was traded away from the place i grew up in, just so someone could save a couple of bucks. factor in that he was SECONDARY to johnson, and i wouldnt blame him. the team put Johnson ahead of him. think about that.

one the other hand, disrespecting management is one thing....but making what you have done for the ENTIRE STATE OF ARIZONA unimportant is just plain disrespectful.

i can see hard feelings from both Johnson and Schilling. they were basically used. face it its completely true. at the time, Schilling and Johnson were the most loved guys out of ANY guy to where an Arizona jersey since Barkley. they brought us what we, as fans and management, wanted, and then were tossed away because they cost to much.

i want each and every one of you to put that into perspective. think about you and your job. you do something AMAZING, and in 6 months you are gone because you cost too much.

i'd be f'cking pissed off too. and what have the fans said to these guys after being traded?.....well its been said by many of you, and its a big old "f/ck you." i'd say that half of you appreciate what these to brought to the the team. the rest of you are bitter. its not like either of these guys bailed on the team....the team bailed on both of them, in different ways.

many of you need to get your heads out of your asses and look at this from the perspective of schilling. blah, blah, blah....i honestly think he's right.

why dont you get your own head out of your own ass. Or for that matter, out of Curt's ass.

Schilling makes millions of dollars... Boo hoo hoo, Schilling got traded - THAT'S BUSINESS! Schilling's still doing pretty hunky dorey right now. I don't see how exactly you feel sorry for him. And telling us to relate HIS job to OUR job is ludicrous. If only I could play baseball every fifth day and make millions of dollars!! The Dbacks dont want to pay me the money I feel I deserve? NO PROBLEM, I'll just go to another team that can. Oh yeah... I can really relate to that!!

His decision to throw a cheap shot at a city that will forever be thankful to him and what he brought to this organization was just LAME. Not sure how anyone could support that.

One thing I've never understood is Curt missing the D-Backs' parade to celebrate their World Series win. Hello? So what that you had a planned cruise with much of your family...you're a freaking multi-millionaire...push it back a day or two, or simply extend the cruise for all your family members. Instead he and his wife skip the parade.

When Boston wins it - first thing Curt says is that there is no way he's gonna miss THIS parade, especially since he and his wife weren't able to participate in the D-Backs' parade.

Uh, by choice, Curt. Your choice. :doi:

and got them both their first world championships. you'd thing that, despite the whole boston curse thing, getting your first would be your favorite.

i think you're way off base here. i think they both rec'd MOUNDS of respect from the fans who adored them. and the team gave 'em both great deals of money and surrounded them with a team good enough to win a championship, how much more do they want?

it got to a point where the team was aging and expensive. the right thing to do, particularly in light of the fact that the team already accomplished a championship, was to try to trade expensive valuable pieces for younger prospects. it's not like it's the breaking up of a young dynasty like the bulls, it was an older team.

and finally, RJ was a complete jerk about getting outta town and demanding he be traded to the yankees which severely strapped the manuevering that the dbacks could undertake in order to get value back for him.

i respect both men for what they did, but i do not respect them for their ridiculous statements and actions. the two can effectively be separated by a thinking man's fan.

Much ado about nothing...

Why should Az fans even care how Curt might "feel" or what spontaneous comments he makes?

Do fans think THEY are supposed to control their former stars in everything they think, feel, or say? And then become "hurt" because they happen to make a non PC quick response to the media.

Arizonans are blowing this WAY outta proportion.

If you are a Dbacks fan, then forever the championship that means the most to YOU .... is... and will forever be ... the 2001 championship. That should be enough.

Similar sentiments expressed in Fever Pitch, when a student remarks to Red Sox obsessed Jimmy Fallon character, "You love the Red Sox, but have they ever loved you back?"

In short, anyone here looking for "love" from Curt, is looking in the wrong place ... and that is simply the nature of sports.

no one wants "love" from schilling, and I dont think it's too much to ask for him not to be such as ASS about his time here as a Dback. Have some class!

The thing that bothered me about Curt's quote is . . .

Why does a positive have to be offset by a negative?

His first World Championship should always be special to him. And being part of the Diamondbacks winning a World Series earlier than any other team, as well.

Then helping bring a Championship to the Red Sox after such a long dry spell. That's special, too. Plus it's his current team.

But Curt has alot of fingers, and alot of room for World Series rings. Why not be equally proud of both?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, the guy who stood behind the Presidential podium should be aware that . . .

A good communicator can say bad things in a positive way.

An average communicator says good things in a positive way and bad things in a negative way.

A poor communicator says good things in a negative way.

Such as his first World Championship.

I cringed when I read Curt's comment in Tuesday's papers, cuz I knew there would be a thread about it, and DBack fans here would be pissed about it. Regardless of how he really feels, Curt didn't need to say that and alienate fans who supported him out there in AZ.

Just my 2 cents.

I wouldn't say Arizona resurrected either career. Geez, Randy had a couple of Cy Youngs before he came to Arizona.

Curt was an all-star for 3 straight years before he was traded to Arizona. Just nobody knew of him because he was on a crummy team.

But in any event, Curt opens mouth, speaks and then thinks. This is nothing new.

The resurrecting career thing was a little bit of a stretch.

Someone brought up Fever Pitch, I think of A Bronx Tale.

From today's AZ Central (Boivin):

This is what advancing to the College World Series feels like:

Support.

It's Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling, who is in the Valley wrapping up two weeks of a rehabilitation stint, visiting the team today to throw batting practice.:

Damnit, Curt - everytime you do something great like help prep the Sun Devils for Omaha, I forget what a media primadonna you've become!

The NCAA also nixed the idea of Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling throwing batting practice to the Sun Devils on Tuesday. Schilling, in the Valley to rehabilitate his injured ankle at Athletes' Performance in Tempe, did speak to the team, which leaves today for Omaha.

Well, thanks for trying Curt...and please feel free to say a few words about the NCAA sometime!!
