Current Roster is at 70. We need to cut three more by 2:00pm today (C.Burton and K.Rogers were assigned to NFLE this year or else we would have had to cut 5). Your thoughts? Mine are as follows: S.Grace (versatile and can play Center or Guard) is just too far down the depth chart (Kendall; Garcia and Starkey) to last beyond today. S. Bush is in a similar position. He is too far down the depth chart at TE (Jones; Banks and Diamond). As a back-up FB he might have had a chance to stick around but when the front office picked up Rue they sent a message that they wanted more athleticism from the back up FB position. Finally, Tim Duncan. He has survived just long enough to keep us all guessing, but it's time to give Gramatica more "game conditioning".

Who do ya'll think will be the three today?

I disagree with you on S. Bush, hope you're wrong.

They should go ahead and put KVB and Starks on IR.

The O-line is still a bit banged up so is it time for another WR to go? What WR's are still on the roster?

Foster
Boldin
Johnson
McAddley
Gilmore
Kasper

Should all be safe at this point. Who am I forgetting?

Cardiac: nate poole is still on the roster - 7th receiver.

We will probably only cut 1 guy and put KVB and starks on IR (Although final verdict is not in on starks).

The remaining WR is Nathan Poole. I'm sure that KVB will be put on IR, but we need to learn more about Starks' injury and if it really is going to be season ending or not before deciding. If it is going to be season ending, I think it will be career ending for him in AZ at least. His time with us in AZ has not been productive.

You're wrong about Bush. There's no way he's going to be cut. You're right that Banks and Diamond might have the edge receiving-wise, but Bush is a superior blocker. He'll stay at #2 on the depth chart because of that.

Steve Grace will eventually be cut on sunday, but he's ahead of Teag Whiting, so I don't think he gets the axe today.

To get to 67(2 exemptions for NFL Europe) the cardinals
should put Vanden Bosch and Starks on IR and Raleigh
Roundtree on PUP list(can join the team after 6 weeks and
has 3 weeks on the team to prove himself).

Two roster spots will be freed by putting KVB and Starks on injured reserved. So we only need to cut one player today.

If we put Starks on IR, don't we lose any chance of him being available at some time during the season, should he rehab quickly?

That's why I'm hesitating putting him there.

BACH,

I agree with you about Bush being the better blocker vis a vis Banks and/or Diamond. But here is the dilemma that I'm looking at.

Banks/Diamond are both better receivers as well as a better ST players. Whatever we lose in terms of blocking skills will be lessened by the blocking abilities of Hodgins, either at the LOS or downfield.

At some point in time we've got to get down to a 53 man roster (plus 6 on the practice squad). Putting KVB(and maybe Starks) on the IR helps free up a couple of spots. I'd be willing to keep this Joshua Rue as the back-up FB if he is a better runner than Bush (which wouldn't be hard to be).

Once again, JMHO

Sorry, but you are way off on Bush; there is absolutely no chance that Bush is going to be cut.

He is currently our 2nd tight end, and Diamond and Bush haven't done anything to challenge him for that spot.

Yesterday's reports on the local news said he was "out for the year", so he's done. Torn ACL's don't rehab within three-four months.

I'm hoping that Lorenzo Diamond gets put on the practice squad, and spends a season in NFL Europe. I think he can play in this league, but needs more than one training camp and preseason to raise the level of his blocking. He already has good size and speed, and looks very natural as a receiver. If he can become an adequate blocker, I can see him making the Cards' final roster in 2004.

Putting KVB and Starks on IR is a no-brainer. They're both done for the year. I'm also fairly certain that I've heard Graves say Roundtree will go on PUP.

I've "played" with my final roster for the last month or so and I'll admit that there are two positions on the offense that are unsettled right now in my analysis.........one being at the TE and the other is at FB.

Here are the interchangeable parts: At TE we have F. Jones as the starter. At FB we have Hodgins as the starter. We need three TE's (in case we use a double TE formation from time to time, plus one other as depth in the event of injury). We could use a back-up at FB, but this is a luxury. If we dump Rue, we can pencil in Bush as the back up FB and take advatage of his versatility. That would mean we are effectively carrying 4 TE's (Jones; Banks; Diamond and Bush), but using Bush as the second FB. Rue has A LOT of appeal as a "running/blocking" FB and he is a dynamo on ST's.

With Banks and Bush, you have a "duplication of core competencies". One will have to go in the event that we keep Diamond and Rue. I've always admired Banks' ST play.

But if you are saying that you have Bush over Banks then I'm OK with that?

I think Bush will stay our #2 TE. Banks is not as good as he is and Diamond I don't think is ready to take that next step up yet. I think Bush has more than proven himself to be a good TE for us and should be pretty secure in his job.

I'm not saying that "I have Bush over Banks" I'm saying the team has Bush over Banks.

Bush was signed to an extension last year, and has done everything asked of him, whether he was asked to catch or block.
