They both really looked good last night. I see both of them starting in 2007 for sure.(or perhaps sooner if injuries occur or Plummer and/or Warner do poorly) Cutler reminds me of a young John Elway with one hell of an arm while Leinart is like Steve Young who was also a lefty. Denver was smart to trade up for Cutler and we had unbelievable luck that Leinart dropped to #10.
It will be fun to watch these two qbs over the next ten years. I think they can both be very special.

Yeah overheard a few donkeys saying Cutler was better than Elway....WHAT!!! I had to interject and tell em to slow down a little bit kid has not even played in a NFL game yet! To annoint him into the HOF already is just stupid. He looks good but its preseason he's not playing against 1 stringers who have game planned all week for their opponent. Preseason means jack! We will see what our team really has next week baby....kick some niners tail! GO CARDS!!!!!

Wasn't Plummer the next Elway?
No, he was the next Montana when he was here in AZ, in Denver he's the next scapegoat.

I agree with the first poster. To me, Alex Smith is a rich man's Josh McCown. Smith has the physical tools, but he doesn't read defenses well and he still locks in on one receiver. He'll tease you with a few big plays, just like McCown did, but I don't think he will ever live up to being a first-rounder, much less the first pick in the draft.

Leinart and Cutler are already better than Alex Smith IMO.

I like the "this why folks were worried about Leinart the guy is not very big" relating to a non throwing shoulder injury. Last time I looked Leinart was an inch taller and 12-15 pounds bigger than Smith.

Folks were worried about Leinarts throwing shoulder and throwing elbow, not his size. I worry about concussions with him but not his right shoulder popping out.

Oh well, it is interesting most 49er fans I know are trying to convince themselves that Smith is legit but they're not sure. He's looked better this preseason clearly, but he doesn't yet look as good as Leinart or Cutler.

Of course they both played a lot more in college than Smith did since he basically played only 2 years.

I am glad St. Louis passed on Cutler for an undersized corner. They may wish they had that pick back before long

Cutler looked great last night. He threw deep and on target. Still, he fumbled and was picked. Leinart looked smooth and pro-ready for the most part. He didn't display a cannon arm, isn't known for one, really, but I'd have loved to see a deep ball or two from him, anyway. For reassurance, I guess. He very much looked like our QBOF.

Still, I'm glad the 49ers have Alex Smith -- or they might have felt obligated to take Leinart with their pick this year. And I get the feeling they kinda wished they had....
