So will it be Gibby or Matty?

Bobby Valentine?

My vote is for Wally Backman, and I'm dead serious.

P.S. I hope Mel Jr. goes too.

That will be interesting as a player he was a real tough no nonsense competitor.

Agree

I was hoping this would be the outcome. Cant be any worse than 13 year old Hinch

The nightmare ends hopefully. This had to be done, fans were getting restless and losing interest. Hinch had to go but Byrnes built this club so he had to be shown the door too. Kevin Towers name has been thrown out there as next years GM with DiPoto taking over on an interm basis.

I would be happy with Towers taking over as GM.

Best news I have heard all day. We have a team full of young impressionable people and a manager that doesnt show emotion wasnt working. Time to bring in the old school.

I'd be happy with Arte Moreno taking over as owner. I can't trust Kendricks' judgment.

Until Kendrick goes or has a revelation the GM will have problems fielding a full team. $75M payroll with $20M of it tied to Eric Byrnes (Jeff Moorad signing) and Webb.

Where is the poll for the DBacks winning % under Gibson for the rest of the year? Will it better Hinch's career .420?

Where was Gibson's fire as bench coach the past couple of years?

Shuffling deck chairs IMO.

I have seen a lot of people on other boards criticizing the firing of Byrnes. Apparently firing a sabermetrics guru is a sin, despite the fact that he has done literally nothing positive aside from bring in Adam LaRoche in the last 3 years.

You're entitled to your own opinion, but IMO your observation is rather incomplete and your snarky comment doesn't make your argument anymore convincing.

It's funny how the impression of fans in the stands and behind the TV can be so different than real life. Amazing how often you see that disconnect happen when you get privy to both sides of the coin.

*I’m curious to see how interim manager Kirk Gibson settles into this role. I find the public perception of him to be wildly different from the way he actually is. It seems like everyone expects some kind of drill sergeant to come in and whip everyone into shape, a guy who’ll have smoke shooting from his ears on every bad call. Who knows, maybe that’s what he’ll be like, but that’s not what he’s been like in his time as the bench coach. He’s more of a goofy guy, someone the players monkey around with in the clubhouse, a guy who’s always keeping them loose. Maybe being the guy in charge will bring that drill sergeant out of him. We shall see.

I wonder who Kirk's Bench Coach will be. I'm thinking that Jay Bell would be a good candidate.
