I wonder why they won't give him a tryout as a Left Fielder. He has more power (and probably a higher batting average) than his competition, especially if Brandon Allen is not in the running (which I can't understand why).

Micah has shown that as a Pitcher, his performance is marginal.

Can we play him in right field, instead?

And where would Justin Upton play? I wouldn't be shocked to see him get some chances at 1st base during the spring but I doubt he will make the club out of spring. I imagine he will be a guy we call up if one of our relievers is hurt.

I'm willing to bet that by the end of the year, if not by the all-star break our left fielder is going to be Collin Cowgill.

Wow. You want to replace our best player with a pitcher. That is good to know.

No. I just want to trade a lazy 5-tool guy who never fulfill his promise while other teams still think he's a guy who will.

Why exactly is he lazy? Is it because he made it to the majors at age 19? An all-star game at 21? Really, tell me why he is lazy because all I see is a budding superstar who is still 3 years minimum from entering his prime. People never seem to realize he is 23 years old and has only played right field for about 4 years.

If you have talent but you don't run out ground balls, make lazy throws back into the infield, and don't run the bases hard when it probably doesn't count ... I'm just tired of defending him. Him and his brother, cut from the same cloth.

Crazy. First the comment about not wanting any part of Galarraga as our 5th starter and now this?

Are you drunk or just trying to be the super intelligent guy who always has to have the counter opinion of the main stream?

When you have a young guy like Upton, at the money we do, and with the production he has already given, let alone what he might be, you don't trade that away. Uptons not the reason we are bad and will likely be a main reason if/when we are ever good again.

Good moves by Dbacks the last couple days. Solid pitching depth acquisitons and the kind of moves that can make or break you during the dog days of summer.

I kind of attacked you in that previous post and you responded in a pleasent manner. I'm sorry for that. You are entitled to your opinion and I can respect that.

Here is the thing. Every play doesn't run the bases all the time. Everyone makes an error. It is not like he never makes a good throw and always jogs the bases. Would I like to see 100% effort all the time? Of course but that doesn't happen. If that is the reason you think he is lazy then you need to get a new definition.

In three minor league seasons, Cowgill has a BA of .277 with 34 total HR's (11 came within a 79 AB spurt and 23 during the rest) and a total of 164 RBI's. He stole 42 bases in the three years, an average of 14 per year.

He is unique in that he throws left and bats right. And he is pretty small at 5'9" - 195 lbs. Do you think he'd be another Rickey Henderson?

He also cost his team his services for the rest of the season when he punched a wall in the dugout because he struck out twice and dislocated two bones in his hand.

I'm curious why you feel that he will be our regular left fielder. Except for the 11 home run spurt, his low batting average and RBI totals, along with his small stature and temper, don't sound very promising.

I don't think he will be like Rickey. He has less speed, less power, and I would imagine less self confidence. I think he becomes the stater mainly as the result of options at this point. We don't really have too many options in the high minors, though we have some intriguing names in the low minors that we should keep an eye on (Krauss and Broxton namely).

In the end it will come up to Allen and Nady's ability to play out there. Sometimes you can take a little less production if you know the guy have better future prospects. Cowgill has an outstanding arm and easily has the speed and wherewithall to play left. Place him in left and we have an outstanding outfield defense.

As for his hitting, if you look at his stats, each year he has moved up a level and hit better than he did the level before. Last year he hit .285 at AA. I don't think it is a stretch to say he will be able to handle himself at the plate in the majors. As for power I doubt he will get much more than 15 a season. He has a swing that could generate power but I don't think he has the size to be hitting 30+ a season.

He is going to get a solid look during spring training to see if he can sneak into the 25 man roster as the 4th outfielder.

Ain't not thing. I wasn't offended. Glad someone's still passionate about the team.

I know Towers has made some very questionable signings but I think the Diamondbacks can be competitive. I don't know how many games the bullpen blew last year but they should get better numbers this year. Putz will be better than any closer they had last year.

You know what I think? If Upton played for any other team, he'd blossom into a stud, if not a true superstar. It's not Upton - it's the organization.

Obviously with Parra playing the way he has my prediction probably won't happen but Cowgill has done nothing to prove my guess wrong. He in fact has become a legit prospect who could take over in left should Parra begin to falter or get hurt.

Take a look at what he has done so far this year.
.355 BA, .421 OBP, .585 SLG, 1.007 OPS
77 hits, 12 doubles, 4 triples, 10 homers, 36 RBIs, 17 steals and only caught 2 times. Also 25 walks with 32 strikeouts. Add to that he only has 1 error and 5 outfield assists.

It is always great to see a fringe guy start to take that next step into becoming a legit prospect who could have a significant impact on the team in the future, whether that be with our team or helping us get someone via trade.
