D-Backs trying to aquire catcher

This is interesting because Barajas is #1 with Hammock slated as #2... With adding a veteran catcher into the mix, it enables Hammock to become the next "Craig Counsell" as the consummate utility player (but obviously a much better hitter)....

I have just a small bit of concern that the position a guy really wants to play is irrelevant. Hammock loves catching, and wants to be a catcher, and Tommy Jones has said he has the mental stuff to be very good at it. We can't draft outfielders so we try to turn infielders into outfielders, who strain some part of their throwing arm (see Durazo and Connor Jackson).

I'd like to see Robby develop as a catcher--RJ seems to like the way he calls the game already, and he obviously prefers that position. Later in his career... if he's finding it difficult to crouch behind the plate or wants to prolong his career by switching to a less stressful position (a la Berra, Bench, etc.) he could do that.

I don't understand the recent fascination for Mayne.

I don't understand most of the D-Backs personnel evaluations when it comes to the 25 man roster.

Having Hammock cover 3+ positions frees up about 2 roster spots alone which they'll definitely need to use for some relievers....
