D Washington better than Briggs

I came across this article making a case that the cards D WASHINGTON may already be better than Lance Briggs.

Funny you bring this up. About 6 weeks ago, Adam Schein on Sirius NFL was lauding the Cards' defense and made specific mention of Washington. He made a comment akin to taking the Cards defense over the Bears. Moments later, some enraged bears fan caller is lambasting Schein about how "ignorant" a statement that was and Washington is no better than Briggs or Urlacher. Schein made salient points about his numbers, skill set, and unmet potential.

Washington is arguably the most underrated defensive player in the NFL, and I hope he gets the full recognition he deserves this season.

Funny thing i am a bears and cards fan. So i have watched alot of both.

I think briggs is and was a great LB but going foward gave me Washington.

Washington was awesome last year yet flew under the radar for the most part. This will be the year when we start to see him get the recognition from the media IMO . It seems players already know how good he is.

Watching D-Wash contain L. McCoy in person last year really shocked me. It was an amazing performance. The sky is the limit for this guy.

Unfortunately he's not even the best inside backer in the division, so he won't garner PB consideration unless Willis gets injured. Bummer!

Such a win for us, as Cardinal fans. He'll never get what he deserves and he'll stay pissed off, wanting to prove himself every single year. Meanwhile, he'll become one of the best inside linebacker we've had.

The comparison of Briggs and Washington is faulty because they don't play the same LB position. Just look at the difference in Dansby's numbers as an OLB vs his results as a 3-4 ILB.

The one thing that DWash does better than any ILB the Cards have had in years is shoot gaps. The right gap. The one that leads to the ball carrier. And he does it quickly. Our guys used to be so bad at it we nicknamed one ILB Wrong Gap Ronnie.

I love Briggs and was lucky to get to see him play every week in college. But it's definitely an odd comparison. No idea how Dwash would hold up in a 4-3 as a MLB, but he is likely one of, if not the best, 3-4 wilb in league at shooting the gap. He should have a huge year, he is SMART and that makes up for any lack in size in the Horton defensive schemes.

One thing you will notice about the guys on our D who are continually on the ball making plays - Lenon, D-Wash, Acho, they are all extremely intelligent and disciplined, which makes up for anything they may lack (Lenon's Age, D-Wash's size, Acho's speed) because Horton's defensive system is predicated on discipline. these guys may not actually excel in other systems that are set up differently.
