Grinnell College's Jack Taylor scored an NCAA-record 138 points Tuesday in a 179-104 win over Faith Baptist Bible.

The previous record was a 113-point performance from Rio Grande's Bevo Francis.

That record was set in 1954.
He played 36 minutes and attempted 108 shots. That's 3 shots per minute all on his own. How the hell does that happen? Also, a player on the losing team scored 70. He scored 70 and still was barely halfway to the game's leading scorer.

****Could a mod change the title to say "player" instead of "players"?****

Kobe is looking into it.

:D
Figures Kobe would do so since this record is garbage. :)

"The strategy was to use a full court press after a made basket, with the caveat that [the player seeking the record] would not cross into the defensive side of the court. So, after our opponents broke our press, we were essentially playing four-on-five, which enabled the other team to take quicker shots and fall into our game plan.
"The rationale is to essentially trade off a quick two or more attempts at lower probability 3-point shots. Given the high pace required for the system, Grinnell shifts in five players every 30 to 45 seconds. Within each shift there is a primary shooter who will take the bulk of threes (or shots) during the shift."

Grinnell has played like that for a long time ..... they just basically shoot and shoot the ball

My roomate when I was living in MN was a Grinnell alumn and brought up their basketball team and how high scoring they were ....... i had never heard of them, but checked them out and he wasn't exagerating .... this team just flat out scores ... for example, last year they went 18-5 and scored the following amounts: 145, 115, 126, 150, 108, 125, 85, 103, 117, 115, 103, 106 (L), 117, 98, 102, 98, 128, 96 (L), 96 (L), 87, 135 (L), 112, 83 (L)

They shoot a lot .... probably 80-90 FG attempts per game (60+ 3 point attempts) - they also go to the line like mad .... not unusual for them to get 30-40 FT attempts

It's really crazy to see

The thing is there are lots of D1 kids who couldn't shoot like that from 3 in an empty gym.

and the worst part is many of them play for UCLA.

heh .... they run a system that would fit for me ....... I used to be able to knock down jumpers, rebound and defend the post ......... couldn't create, was slow in moving the ball and didn't run the best ........ but let me play 1/2 the court, shoot some jumpers and then some elbows in the blocks and grab boards - sign me up

it would be interesting to see how some of their more conventional competition schemes against them
