That may be true, but scoring isn't scoring especially when you play at his level. Taylor Rohde averaged 30ppg in 4A and he's never going to be a serious contributor in the Pac-10. The most prolific scorer in Arizona high school basketball history was this kid named Lawrence Westbrook who averaged 41ppg for Chandler a few years back as a junior before he transferred to a prep school back east then ended up at Minnesota where he's currently a pretty average player. Demetrius Walker also put up 30 a night in 5A and he's probably not going to do all that much at the college level. At the same time Ty Abbott averaged about half of those guys and about the same as Fat Lever's kid and he's a 1st team All Pac-10 performer.

If Hawkins makes it at ASU it'll be because he improves his jump shot and works his butt off in the gym to give him some more athleticism to make up for being a undersized SG, not because he puts up 35 every night against the Phoenix School of the Blind.

Someone write this down: Hawkins will be a success because he plays harder than anyone else on the court. I know his skills aren't Pac-10 ready (well, maybe they are as bad as the conference is right now), but he's truly tenacious. Most kids his age coast when they're so much better than their competition. They have to drag him off the court to get him out of a game during a blowout.

Kid just plays angry. All the time.

I'm shocked you're so positive about him! I certainly expect Hawkins to be more McMillan than Harden, but you conveniently forget to mention that Hawkins has put up very good numbers against top competition.
I guess we have different ideas of what top competition is.

It's like Death and Taxes.

I suppose you could make your own argument to try to refute me, that's how adult conversations work.

I perhaps would've addressed his or your argument, unfortunately both of you (unlike Gadd or 'Cuse for example) failed to make one. I'm inclined to agree to disagree at this point and see how it plays out next year.

I didn't make an argument. A made an agreement. I think that even if we win the P10 tournament you will still have a reason why it was not an accomplishment because of the Pac 10 this year. That is all, you can disagree with me I don't care but it is true. Or at least in my opinion.

Oh Mao, I didn't claim anything, I was simply commenting on your post... I am in no way part of this particular argument man ;)

IMO, if your a scorer you should be able to do it on any level. Jerryd Bayless, Mike Bibby, Sean Elliott are the top three players to ever come out of Arizona (the state not the school), were there any other D-1 players attending high school their respected senior years that actually turned out to have good college careers? I don't think so. So you can argue that they played against inferior competition. Hawkins played in 3A but his ability to score should translate, guys like Demetrius Williams & Ty Abbott do not have Hawkins' jump shot. But time will tell.

I figured either Hawkins or Creekmur would've transferred after this year once they realized they weren't getting minutes. I wish Corey the best, I'm bummed it didn't work out. At least this opens up another scholarship for 2012.

As Bejarano decided where he's going yet? It would be neat if he & Hawkins talked and both went to NAU or even GCU. Though since GCU isn't D1 I imagine there's 0 chance of that. It'll be nice when that program is up a level to have a place for Valley kids who aren't quite Pac 10 level to go, NAU seems to have been missing out on those kids for years. Seems to me you ought to be able to dominate the Big Sky with the 2nd tier AZ kids.

I think Bejerano is going somwhere in the MWC.

Nobody's going to pay their own way at GCU when there will be free rides available. NAU is also a non-factor if you want to be seen and eventually play somewhere overseas.
