Mack is wreaking havoc already. Just knocked Rodgers out. Beware for week 3.

Man...and his left leg is falling off. Wouldn't be surprised if we find out it's a pretty bad injury.

I know I touted lots of Cal and Stanford players over the years but it is one of those how different would the Cards history have been if we'd picked Rodgers? We took Antron who had some good years but Rodgers has been unreal.

If you redo that draft, and virtually every team in the NFL that passed on Rodgers feels the same way, it changes our entire history. We took Leinart the next year, we already had Warner and he led us to our only SB appearance, but obviously if you have Rodgers, you never draft Leinart. If you redo it with total hindsight we either trade back and get more picks, or we pick Ngata since we didn't need a QB having already picked Rodgers.

I had no idea Aaron would be THIS good but I knew he was better than Navarre or McCown would ever dream of being and remember that's why we passed on him. the difference between us getting Leinart and him being a total bust, and Rodgers is just amazing. We were fortunate that Warner was so good and then we got Palmer but if you replay the last 12 years or so with Rodgers, wow.

but again 23 teams passed on him that year, I know 49er fans who still scream about that

AR had the perfect developmen sitting for 3 years. When he came in the Packers’ skill players were in their prime and had an elite defense. He would’ve been an all time great regardless but he wouldn’t have been ready as a rookie. He was too skinny and still threw like a Tedford QB. He didn’t get help from Favre but GB had the right support system for his development. He was 25 years old when the keys were handed to him.

Sure but he still today throws like a Tedford QB, it's one of the things that makes him so good he's always got that ball in position to get the throw off. Over the years he's become really good at throwing from different angles too, but he still uses the mechanics he learned at Cal. IN fact he was VERY outspoken when Cal fired Tedford he was furious about it.

I agree about the getting to sit and learn helped him but that might have been the case with us too, if we pick him he's competing with Warner during the time Kurt resurrected his career. He might have changed that whole thing, maybe he's teh QB in 08 not Warner who knows.

What baffled me about the 2005 draft, and the Aaron Rodgers vs Alex Smith debate, was that if they were SO close in talent and SO hard to choose between, how could you NOT lean towards Rodgers, given that he was coming out of a pro-style offense, while Smith was coming from a shotgun-only, VERY collegiate system? Seems like a no-brainer at that point - go with the guy with the experience relevant to the next level. Yet the 49ers chose Smith, and everybody else yawned until the Packers pick. Smith became a decent QB but it took a LONG time.

As for Cards destiny had they drafted Rodgers - who knows what he may have evolved into here? Although with Denny Green coming onboard the next year, he probably would have done just fine.

He wasn’t nearly as robotic looking as he was in college. He wasn’t a stiff but 3 years later his body and arm were completely transformed. Plus he knew the playbook. These days 21 year old are being thrown into the fire right away for bad teams.

He would’ve had some great weapons here for sure.
