Except for seeding, a loss is a loss wether it is against an average team or an elite team. In the playoffs the odometer starts at zero. I'm not going to try to read much into the next Suns/ Mavs game... win or lose.
I think the mavs will be fine in a playoff series against g.s. Not to say dallas would sweep them, but i think the mavs might be a little more prepared in the playoffs. and you are right you can't read too much into dallas/phoenix thus far. both of those first 2 games were very close. However if dallas thinks they are gonna beat phoenix with that type of performance they will be in for another laugher.

I also think Dallas may have be looking forward to the upcoming Suns game. I wouldn't mind at all if the Mavs shot their entire load during the regular season.

Obviously every team has a bad game every once in a while. I would not be shocked to learn that the Mavs got caught looking ahead to Wednesday's game and weren't "up" for playing the Warriors.

The box score is up and the Warriors shot 57% to the Mavs 42%. Dirk shot only 3 of 11. However, the most interesting stat is that the Mavs had 23 turnovers.

Another odd stat is that Biedrins shot 8 of 8 from the field. With the huge size advantage the Mavs have, getting killed on the inside by Biedrins and Harrington who went 5 of 5 is pretty interesting.

This could be bad for Dallas.

The suns obviously peaked but they peaked early enough after that 17 win streak to let the injuries come and go and lose some games, but after it had passed they had enough time to slowly regain their footing and start rolling again and tonight was a solid performance all around so it could be the beginning of gaining back our mojo.

If Dallas on the other hand has already peaked (and that could be quite possible after losing to the warriors so horribly) and starts to lose a game here or there the window of time left for them to get rolling again might not be enough and they could get some nasty losses, possibly finish of the season mediocre, and/or run into some unforseen troubles in the first round and lose a game or two.

I could be jumping to conlusions here but no championship team fully healthy should lose to a team not even currently in the seeding for the playoffs and lose in such a horrible manner.

I guess this time we will see if Dallas rebounds in the game against the Suns. I, as a suns fan, am obviously completely unbaised and only hope the mavs lay a complete stinker and the suns walk all over them.

the only thing i would say is that the mavs still have a long way to go. and avery isn't going to let this team peak or feel as if they've peaked in the regular season. Streaks don't last forever and quite frankly the mavs, like the suns, played a lot of creampuffs in their 17 game streak. Now the schedule gets a little tougher for the mavs in the next week or so, but the mavs will respond. I'd expect them to win at least 1 out of the 2 against phoenix and detroit.
I remember when the mavs were the worst team in the nba in the 90's. and the champion bulls came to town. It was cedric ceballos who led the mavs to victory at reunion arena. Every dog has its day.

Golden State is an OK rebounding team, but they have to be because they shoot like 45% from the field, and they also give up a lot of boards because of it. When they shoot well, their rebounding reinforces what they're trying to do.

I imagine Al Harrington and Stephen Jackson are a fair matchup for Dirk and Howard. Dirk shot 3-11 from the field and had 7 turnovers. Ouch.

Now where's that tool Greensborohill?

I hope we smash em in a few days!

PS I would love Biedrins on our team! He's gonna be very good for them.

Present.

You really think the G St. loss has any bearing on how the Mavs perform Wednesday? If anything I would have thunk you would have wanted them to win lst night. . they'd be fat and happy coming into the next game. If it makes you feel better, you can try to break our home winning streak.

Gotta agree with you. Good teams rarely lose two in a row, and no matter how much we hate Dallas, they are a really good team. That said, I hope the Suns win tomorrow. Great win last night against the Rockets, now we just need to show we can beat Dallas in Texas!

I wonder if my old Troll warning system needs to be brought back for the push to the playoffs. Thoughts?

I think Golden State has a very good chance of the 8th seed- right now they are just a few games out of it. The Clippers are currently in the 8th slot, and if they play like they should they can probably hold onto the slot. I don't think Dallas would lose to Golden State in the first round, but if the Warriors can stretch the series to 6 or 7 games that would really benefit the Suns.

D'Antoni needs to get on the phone ASAP and ask Nellie what the secret is :p

I never thought I would actually use the ignore list... but with Mavs fans, I have found the function useful.

If I were D'Antoni, I would be picking apart all the GS/ Mavs game film tape this season to see what GS is doing. I'm sure Don Nelson may be of some help. He probably knows something about the Mavs that we don't. Obviously Nelson should know the Mavs weaknesses better than any other outsider having been a coach there.

I wouldnt think the suns would try to exploit this until playoff time.

Strictly how the schedule is. Mavs will be pissed and want to get back on track quickly. Problem with that is they play a team Wednesday that will be ready to go. Should be a playoff type game.

Sweet, I added SteelDog to my ignore list!! You were right, it is a great function!!

:biglaugh: Oh no. Not the dreaded troll ignore list.:doi:

That's about as devestating as being stranded on a tropical island with the Suns dancers with me be the only guy there.

Dallas just had an off night against a team that matches up well with them. Happens to everybody. It might actually have helped them relax.

Come on guys, this Dallas/Suns/Spurs thing is great for basketball. Good teams, unselfish, good characters, different styles, what more could you want?

I'm even getting used to Fallen49.
