Good for him.

I really hope he does well. I can't blame a guy at all when the offer he takes is pretty much double what his original team is offering.

Lots of coin for Dan Williams...

Good for him. He wasn't worth that much to us. Would've liked him back, but I'd rather our GM focus our resources in the direction he wants to go.

No we're not switching to a 4-3

I would if I was the Cardinals just because of supply and demand. Trying to find OLBs who can rush the passer, and hold up vs the run is almost impossible to do with any certainty. Easier to find 4-3 DEs. Also, teams spend so much time is sub packages that normally have 4 man fronts. You either have to drop your OLBs down as sub DEs (and be ok with size difference) or use more roster spots and money for sub rush specialists. Both defenses require two LBs who cover.

Dan played well last season in his 37% snaps he took. Although he was playing in a contract year the Cards front office knows he just a part time player and after getting paid will possibly return to his weight struggles. The Cards did the right thing letting dumpster go.

I don't see why so many fans feel the need to kick a guy on his way out the door. The Cards didn't want him back at a market price. He got a market price elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the Cards have extended the contract of one first-round pick since 2004, and that was Patrick Peterson.

No we're not switching to a 4-3

Can you say that for sure right now? Is that based on the evidence available?

Something to consider is that Ed Stinson was projected as able to play all three spots across a 3-4 front due to his strength at POA and quickness. I have no inside information here, but Stinson is a possibility to get snaps at NT.

He was asking for less than this to stay, and we said no. He hits FA and makes more. We could, and should, have retained him for less. This frickin' sucks.

It's funny that you say this (and I agree with it) considering that when we switched to the 3-4 (it felt dirty), the opposite was said. It was widely believed that there were plenty of guys in that 240-260 range that could play 3-4 OLB that couldn't play well in a 4-3 and that good 4-3 ends had to be drafted in the top 10 picks of the draft.

I now believe that this view was false; It's harder to find a guy in the 240-260ish range that can rush the passer (speed AND power), hold the edge, AND cover backs and tight ends in man/zone coverage.

I think this false believe was created because so few teams ran 3-4's for a long time, and the teams that did had the "pick of the litter" as far as finding and developing 3-4 backers. Even Pittsburgh has been struggling in recent years to ID and develop good outside backers.

I assume he meant first round picks after 2004, Fitzgerald was drafted in 2004. none of the other first round picks since then have been extended with the exception of Brown (but if I recall he may have been allowed to hit free agency)

He said since 2004 and Fitz drafted in 2004 thus should be included no? Wasn't extended till after 2006… So his statement is clearly false

Cutting with a pretty fine blade there, huh, Shane?

Of the Cards' first round draft picks since 2004, only one has received a contract extension with the team--Patrick Peterson.

Levi Brown was cut and then re-signed with the team.
