Dansby likes New York?

This may have been posted but didnt see it. On NFL Channel's "Moving the Chains" Dansby was asked about his status and he commented to the fact that he "..would really love to play in New York" and compared his situation to Eli Manning's situation when he refused to go to San Diego.

Dansby essentially said "Eli knew that New York was a better situation for him, and thats what I am looking at too" He went on to mention that he hadnt talked to anyone regarding a contract, etc etc

Probably posturing, but an interesting comment none-the-less. I agree that he has got to be the #1 priority and it has to happen prior to Free Agency. I think if the Cards let him hit Free Agency, he wont be back...

I don't want to read too much into the comments yet, but I hope he was just trying to be nice in an interview.

I am trying not to read this as, "I am still not totally convinced the Cardinals front office is committed to winning as much as other teams."

Smart move, cause if he hits free agency, and I don't think he will, the Jets are known for shelling out money.

The Jets will have to be creative if they want Dansby as they are over the cap if you add in bonuses and the Giants still have alot of FAs of their own to sign such as Jacobs, Ward, etc.

The Jets need only to dump Farve IIRC to have pleny of room for Dansby and some others. the Giants, from everything I have read are interested in Boldin.

This offseason will be my final judgemnt on RG.

I thought I heard that the Jets are Favre's salary ($13 million) OVER the cap, and that jettisoning Favre just gets them to the cap limit. Could be wrong though.

The Giants are 11 million under the cap.

The Jets are 7 million over.

Exactely! He's posturing by bringing in the Cardinals' biggest rival now. Them and Dallas , Philly. He'll be mentioning them next. Watch. He doesn't have the leverage he believes he has though. The Cardinals will keep him another year and go heavy drafting LB's this year, just like last year when they drafted 2 DE's.

I think you're right, as I remember hearing something like that too.

That is just about right:

New York Jets Salary Cap
2009

Estimated NFL Salary Cap Limit: $123,000,000
Jets Adjusted Cap: $124,500,000
Current Estimated Amount Over Salary Cap: $14,778,685

As Karlos always says "Calvin Pace for President"

He wants the big bucks and it probably won't be here.

9M last year and 10M or so this year is pretty good security in my book. I'm tired of guys whining about security. You've allready got it.

If we gave him the F-tag again this year and paid him 10 mil, then the FO are a bunch idiots. They would be giving him 18.5 mil gauranteed in the last 2 years. I would have thought you could have gotten him to sign long term (say 5 years) for simular numbers. Even giving him 25 mil in guarantees would mean you only have to pay 6.5 mil more over the next 3 years.

Yeah, The title is misleading; what I meant to put is "likes" NY. And I meant the Giants not the Jets. Fact is, he likes any team that is going to pay him. Cardinals have to get this done and soon! If they let him test the FA market, I do not believe he will be back. He seems waaaaay to interested in the free agent process.

To be fair, it seems that way for a couple of reasons: 1) The questions he's being asked by the media pertain to it, and 2) why shouldn't he be? He's won the NFL lottery by being one of the most sought after FAs in football.

Oh I dont disagree, what I am saying is that as much as he has been tallking about it, and as much as he has called Pace his "savior" (for the big contract), I wont believe it if he says "I will test the FA market, but give the Cardinals a last chance to match or beat any offer". I think first contract he and his agent feel is a good one, he will bolt.

Lets not be naive to think his heart is in AZ is my point. If you want to do that with Antonio Smith thats one thing, not Dansby!

If we do Tag him, can we still discuss an extension or is he locked into the Franchise Tag Tender? I could see us tagging him to make sure he isn't going anywhere and buy more time.

This offseason will be my final judgemnt on RG.

mine too given i don't know much about the salery cap but we know we need to keep dansby and i'd like to keep antonio smith and Q both represented by rosenhous so that ain't gonna be easy

i'm sure his advice to smith and Q will be to test the open market sso we'll see

i think we'll have some noise out of dockett too

it'll be an interesting offseason as whiz said the other day we are 4 weeks behind many teams dur to our playoff and superbowl run

but it really only comes down to $
whos got and who doesn't

haha. Phoney baloney. Regardless of what happens, the Rod Graves bashers will always return to pick on a wound. There is no way we keep everybody any of you wish to keep nor will we pick up every FA you wish us to obtain.

2009 will be another summer of whining. Bring it on, Mao and others.
