No surgery for Dansby:
The trip by linebacker Karlos Dansby to a specialist in Alabama Sunday gave him the partial answer he was looking for: that he will probably not need surgery on his problem left big toe. It was a major piece of good news, since surgery would likely keep Dansby out for the season.

But Dansby still isn’t close to returning to the field yet, a source with knowledge of the situation said. He still needs physical therapy to rehab his injuries. A timetable for Dansby to return to the practice field remains undecided.

“You get to this point where you have guys that aren’t able to help you,” Green said. “You have ‘x’ number of guys. You want the guys under contract to help you.”

I just can't understand how this guy can be hurt and needing physical therapy now??? What has he been doing all off season?

Something just doesn't smell right and I, like others here, think Dansby's is either pulling a Terrell Owens and wanting a new contract or he just wants to get out of training camp because he's lazy. Either way, he's turning into a cancerous lesion that this team can ill-afford right now, Especially since he was our best play-maker on the defense last year and had a real chance at the pro-bowl and a huge contract this year.

I'd like to know who he's getting his advice from.

it has to be the money. There is just nothing left, but the money for him to be this unhappy .. I say screw it and give him a 5 year deal if that will shut him up. Also place a lot of the bonus money on playing time / workouts / training camp.

I know it is not right to reward a player pulling this type of action, but the Cards are so very close that we need him right now. I also belive a new contract will stop all the bad vibes right now instead of letting this fester.

or he might just be injured. I've not seen a single report about Dansby was unhappy with his contract

How does being/acting hurt help his chances for a new contract? I'm still waiting for someone to explain this to me. And now he's cancer:lame: . People called Wadsworth a cancer and all he did was try to play on bad knees. Why does being hurt make you a cancer? I've never heard anything bad said about Dansby other than the fact that he's hurt. I guess Kenny King is the biggest cancer in the NFL.He's going on 3 years being hurt.

According to Dansby everything between him and the coaches is 'fine'. Would like to see him on the field, but after watching Huff, Hayes and Pace last week we will be OK at LB.

Good point. This could potentially turn into a huge plus if Pace can take his place and Dansby can take over for Huff. If Hayes can continue to play as well as he did Saturday, we'll be set for linebackers. Even though Huff looked good Saturday, he was definitely a weak link last year.

I haven't heard any reports that he's a problem in the locker room. He may have his issues, but I don't see it affecting the team. And I don't see Denny showing the same frustration he did with Leinart's holdout.

But his situation does seem more curious every day. If he's thinking he's all that he needs to come down to earth fast. I don't remember seeing him in the Pro Bowl.

Agreed. He may not be a cancer.

But I still think he is a head case.

Reason:
He has had a strained thumb and a bad big toe. But when did this happen ? He was cleared by the team doctors to practice. Why didn't the team doctors say Dansby is hurt and he cannot practice ?

Second, since Dansby was cleared to practice and Dansby has taken it upon himself to not practice cause he knows his body cannot then why did he wait until now to take care of these ailments ? If his thumb was sooo bad, and his toe was sooo bad then why didn't he take care of this during the offseason.

This is a huge year for the organization, AND it is his contract year.

All this boils down to a fishy situation that needs to be explained. The coaches don't seem to know what is actually going on, and we the fans know less, and are left to speculate.

From what I ( I repeat "WHAT I") can put together Dansby is unhappy about something and is being incredibly selfish and immature. To pull this when so much is on the line has taken one of my favorite players, and forever has tanished his image.
________________________________________________________________

That being said I am happy with Hayes, Pace, and Huff. If Dansby comes back and helps the team then great. If he comes back and explains himself, and makes me look like a fool EVEN BETTER. But I right now the story just doesn't add up.

I agree with RugbyMuffin. There is just something else wrong and most of the time it turn out to be about the $$$. Regardless I still think Dansby is a Top 10 LB and he should be given a nice payday. If we sign him now we might get a decent discount ? Then if he turns out to be a headcase we could ship him off for decent draft picks. The last thing I want right now is a huge rift and then Dansby bolting for nothing....

At least there's someone on here that hasn't been completey lost in the Leinart haze to remember what has been going on with Dansby since training camp started. Okay maybe cancer was a bit harsh, I'll admit, but this situation is heading in that direction and if you don't think there is a problem, just go back and re-read some of the Denny's quotes. There is something going on with him and it's more than just a strained big toe.

Signing him only to ship him off anywhere within a 3 year time span of signing a new deal will have to big of cap implications for taht to be feasible.

Is he a top 10 LB yet. Potential wise i believe he is but he is not nearly consistent enough to be a top 10 LB right now.

Second I highly doubt it is about money. If it was we would have got some sort of rumor on it by now. Well we havent. We have though recieved many rumors about his non chalant attitude, an attitude he has had since college, and obvious in his draft interviews which lowered his grade on a lot of scouts notes. He has had all of these nagging injuries since college as well that kept him out of many a practice including many practice since he has been with the cards including practices during the season. During the season the guy barely practices and that is why he will never get to being the top 10 LB he could be. Lets count his injuries so far he has had this offseason.

1. Pinky surgury
2. Thumb surgury right before training camp even though by all accounts he could have and should have done it the same time he had the same surgury on his pinky.
3. Hamstring in OTA's - Told Jurecki he fixed it becuase he got new Insoles, yes insoles will make a difference but so much so that he had to miss practice. He didnt know about this before hand?
4. Groin in OTA's - Apperantly becuase he was over compensating for his big toe problem.
5. Big Toe in Training Camp - Which doesnt need surgury and he knew about since last season but is only now looking after it?

There is something fishy here and it isnt money. IMO we have a guy knows he is good and he is content with just being good and nothing else.

I'm gonna say that's a great take.

It fits pretty well, some players think they are too good to practice, he is good, it also explains the leadership thing that the coaches seem to be harping on.

I'd like him to be great but if he shows up on gamedays then he'll do til his contract runs out then let him go if it stays this way, I think we have enough leader types that he won't drag the team down, you do have to watch guys like him that they don't end up taking over the mindset of a team, but with Berry, Rolle and Wilson on the defense that's not going to happen.

Thr wierd thing about all this is his style of all out play when it matters (in game situations).

Ideally, yes he'd be a practice warrior too - but apparently he's not. Lets see what THIS SEASON brings before we rush to conclusions on what is happening with him at this point in time.

If he shows up on Sundays will tell the whole story IMO.

I love Dansby and think he's a fantastic player, but he seems to be having some sort of ish with the team. With that said, what could he bring in a trade for a OT? With Pace becoming a LB stud, does not having Dansby hurt us as bad as not having a solid OT? I'm thinking Dansby and a 3rd rounder would give us something far better than Shipp and a 3rd. I guess what I'm saying is...I'd be willing to move Dansby for a good OT if the improvement to the OL would surpass the loss of depth at LB. Am I alone in this one? Or am I just terrified at the OL?

Well, i think you,and alot of other people, are putting an awful lot of faith in a guy who has never played a down of LB in a regular season game, in Pace. Pre-season means nothing and i know DG has been singing his praises but he also has sung the praises of JOsh Mccown and John Navarre. I would much rather have Dansby at OLB with Pace spelling him and Ross at OT than have a mediocre RT come in at the expense of Dansby and having Pace have to perform at a high level. I would think at this stage of the game that it would be very hard to acquire any quality along the OL.

No, I clearly laid it out that if we could move Dansby and a pick for an OL that would start and start well, and IF that move would make the OL significantly improved over the loss of LB depth, that it would be a good move.

If that move couldn't be made, or the OT coming in wouldn't offset the loss of Dansby on the LB core, then we stand pat.

I don't WANT to move Dansby, but I'm fully in the mode of "let's get this OL better in a hurry" because we have a playoff caliber squad here on both sides of the ball, except for the OL.

And I'm not buying the words of Denny on Pace; I'm buying what I'm seeing at practice and in the first preseason game...and if the staff felt this would be a good move I'd be all behind it.

Dansby and a pick could possibly pluck one hell of a tackle for us, while Shipp and a pick would likely net us one more guy who would be "in the rotation" which means he's decent, but not really good enough to be a starter.

Toes are tricky.

If you can't push off in game situations, you're in trouble as a LB.

The questions for Dansby are: (1) does he have to rest the toe in order for it to heal? and (2) barring that, is there anything in the form of a splint, brace, boot or medication that can alleviate the symptoms without permanently damaging the toe?

We're not doctors. We don't have access to Dansby's medical records. (i.e. We may think we know but we don't know).

I think it's unfair to pass judgment lacking that knowlege. Further - given Dansby's track record so far as a pro - I'd be inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt here and suggest we all back off.

A few things that dont agree with the above.

1. This isnt new with Dansby.

2. His toe has apparently been hurting him since the end of last season, he is just now looking at it.

3. See injury history just this offseason that I already posted.

4. More then one person telling us about his non chalant attitude

5. He is the only injured player that isnt at Flagstaff even though he doesnt need surgury. If everyone else can rehab in Flag, why cant he. Really what non serious injured players arent allowed to be at training camp or told to go home and to go home for a non surgury needed toe? Come on if that doesnt tell you something then what will. He was sent home, Period.

6. Everyone has injuries, but he is the only one who wont practice through even the minor ones. Okeafer is practicing on a sore knee, Boldin has his leg wrapped up.

7. If the toe is so tricky, A) why is this the first we have even heard about it and B) why did it take so long for him to get it even looked at.

8. He had these same exact nagging "injuries" that keeps him out of practice in college and his first 2 years with this team. It isnt new. Its just taht the coaches are finally tired of it.

I still dont get why we give these players so much of the benefit of the doubt especially when we have poeple in the know telling us what is going on and with the history and evidence to back it up. Coaches and media paid by the cards are calling him out. Media people that are paid to pump up the team are calling him out. That one thing says a lot to me.

Probably just too many years where it turned out the "people in the know" didn't know anything.

I for one am really jaded when it comes to Cardinal coaches and staff and players. 30 years of a promising off season followed by one 5-11 failure after another will do that.

let's not call him a cancer if we can avoid that....BUT he might find out the hard way from the cardinals point of view that as good as he is, we are not going to keep the train in the stations waiting for him...all the top coaches take that position or you wind up like dusty baker and the cubs waiting for something from wood or prioir and nothing happens...good to see that the blackstocks of the world are stepping up

If Dansby's having trouble motivating himself now, what the hell would giving him a huge contract do? If he cant get motivated for that first big payday, what will motivate him. Do not give him a new contract until he earns it. If you give it to him now, he will never work/play to his ability.
