Dansby will not be extended during the season. Dansbys agent has not heard from the Cards yet. Not even a 1st proposal or idea's on structure.

They will continue to talk with Pace agent but will wait on Dansby until hopefully late Jan.(means we are in the playoffs) early Feb. Still gives a full month to get a deal done though before free agency in March.

I don't think the Cardinals will be able to sign Dansby before FA. They will instead use the Franchise tag on him. That will give them a full year to work out a long term deal.

That is my biggest fear though. Will the front office be willing to pay Dansby the Franchise tender of about 8 Mill. Gauranteed next year. Will they give Dansby the provision of not tagging him the next year in that deal?

Two things we havent done or havent done in a long time.

Fear of the unknown I guess.

The injuries are an issue!

The question is will Dansby (his agent) accept a contract with the right amount of dollars overall, but with some of the money hedged by number of games/minutes played???

did q or Hayes have it lodged into their extensions that some money be hedged by number of games/minutes played because both of those guys had substantially more injured time than Dansby had at that point they got theirs.

Playing on average 14.5 games a season isn't an issue for a player of Dansby's magnitude.

The fact that we haven't even gotten a proposal out to his people yet is mind-boggling.

Why work on Pace first? Why not make the priority the priority player? That just makes such little sense to me.

Now that is a very good question... Could be the Cards are concerned about Dansby's durability?? I dunno... But it is suprising to see them trying to do a deal with Pace before Dansby...

because Pace has been more durable? Paces has missed 11 games for one reason or another through his first four years, compared with Dansby's 4.

I think they are working on Pace first because he'll be easier to sign. Then, if needed they have the tag for Dansby. That way they have them both locked up instead of both on the market, which could cripple the defense for next year.

Pace has said he's not looking to break the bank so its easier to sign him.. Worse comes to worse, the Cards can place the 1 year franchise tag on Dansby and see if his health keeps up..

I had thought (just guessing) that Dansby missed more time than that; probably because it is so noticable when he is not in the game.

I recind my previous comment.

it really is unbelievably noticeable the difference in the D when Dansby's out. Gotta get him done.

Locking up Pace and Dansby, when added to Hayes means that the Cards have three solid, young Linebackers under contract for a while.

Add to that Dockett, Watson and Branch on the D-line, and the team has a very solid, young foundation on D to continue to build on.
