D’Antoni will be entering his first full season as head coach in Phoenix when the 2004-05 season tips off this fall and is more than ready to see what, or rather who, the cash flow the Suns have accrued will bring them.

“We’re geared up,” he said. “We’ve loaded up the Brinks truck, and we’re going go drive around and see if somebody wants it. We’re pretty excited about it and that’s going to determine a lot of whether I’m smart or not (laughs).”

How can you not love this guy?

How did we get zero votes on the all interview team? I mean really, Mikey's comments have to get at least 1 person to vote for him!

I don't dislike coach Mikey as a person - having not met him, I base that on his words to the press. I do disagree quite vehemently with his ideas on basketball, as I see them embodied in the play of the team. I may wonder about his smarts if the team winds up giving a large chunk of their money to Okur - coach Mikey and BC both have said they want an all out running game and Okur is about as bad a fit as one could find for that style.

I have to admit I don't care for his activist sideline coach style - I like to see the coach sitting there quietly and watching what's happening. That way they at least give the impression they have some faith in what they've taught the team in practice. After Danny, Skiles and FJ I'm more convinced than ever that constant directives from the sidelines during games constitute a very bad sign.

I bet Utah overpays for Okur anyway.

They have just too much capspace and almost no FA will really consider Utah anyway unless they overpay.

This is hog wash! There isn't enough hours in a day for a coach to teach every player every situation with every diff line up in the league. There are very few coaches that can sit long stretches with out shouting out instructions, The ones that can have enough talent to not worry about every detail, those who are less talented have to pay more attention to every detail just to compete. we simply have too young of a team to turn loose and just kick back and watch.

Sounds to me like he was referring to Phil Jackson--someone who he obviously believes is a great coach--just not for the Suns.

Somehow his joking got into going for Okur. Did I miss something here.

BTW, exactly what are D'Antoni's ideas on basketball that you so violently oppose?

As for his sideline style, I don't think he is even in top half of demonstrative NBA coaches. Maybe if he got glasses he could pretend to be Larry Brown.
