OK this guy has shown tons of talent.

Has anyone heard anything as to why Methuselah Lenon is starting ahead of him?

Just seems awfully strange to me that DW would be relegated to the bench after having had a more than decent first half of his rookie season.

Very strange indeed considering the speed of the linebacking core has been exposed the last few weeks and don't really fit Billy Davis' extremely mind boggling scheme.

Besides chasing plays down that he missed tackles on or running into the frame once the play was over, I don't think that Daryl Washington was doing anything special. He certainly wasn't staying on the field in coverage situations even when Hayes was on PUP.

Lenon isn't doing anything less than Daryl Washington would be doing if he were on the field. I think that this coaching staff is going to make Washington earn his way back into the starting lineup, and he hadn't been consistent enough in his keys to beat out Lenon, who is always where he's supposed to be so that Justin Forsett can break his arm tackle and run for another 15 yards.

Daryl Washington being on the sidelines is not the problem with this defense.

This coaching staff stinks and they think that rookie can not play in this league; well as far as I see, this coaching cannot coach in this league. Hayes should sit, cannot move. Davis continues to put his players in the wrong scheme and expects it to work. We're in a long season and will continue until a change is made.

But Paris Lenon won't be on this defense next year or the year after and Washington will be. I say let him play and learn his trade in real games not in a couple of practices and a trip to the movies every week.

Having DW on the sideline is a problem, he needs the playing time, enough of the easing in BS. We need him on the field AMAP.

The point of having him on the field is that he can then learn from his missed reads on film and get better. I don't really see that Daryl Washington has been getting better. It's possible that this is a message from the coaching staff that Washington needs to study harder.

Or, the coaching staff may still feel that Lenon at WILB gives the team the best chance to win right now (and it might), and they're not going to put in rookies (the Max Hall return watch is officially on for this Cards fan) in major roles until the Cards are officially out of the playoff race.

So, basically, after the next divisional loss, we can expect to see much, much more of Dan Williams, Daryl Washington, O'Brien Schofield, Max Hall, and Stephen Williams.

The thing is that maybe if we saw more of those guys right now there wouldn't be any more divisional losses.

Running out that geriatric ward every Sunday doesn't seem to be working.

BTW: I always laugh when I hear a coach say that an older guy is playing because he gives us the best chance to win when they have lost 4,5,6 games in a row.

It's not the way I'd do it, although I think that Daryl Washington's playmaking since in the preseason has been wildly overstated (although he has impressed me thus far).

I'm certainly not going to excuse it. But I am trying to explain it.

I don't think that the problem is ILB play, FWIW. I think we'll see an effort to evaluate other players really kick into gear once we're out of the running for the division. But, sadly, the desire to get out of a four-game skid currently outweighs all other concerns, as it should.

Not when you just keep doing the same things and starting the same lineup that got you into the 4 game skid in the first place.

Probably the same reasoning that gets Bryan Robinson all his playing time. Of course Washington is going to make mistakes. He is a rookie. Loads of physical talent so let him play and learn.

We have all seen enough of what the vets can do and it is making us sick.

And it seems the return of Hayes has made us worse.

I too would like to see Williams and Washington in the starting line ups. Heck we are last in the NFL in every way. It can't be worse with those two guys playing. Paris Lenon has done more than he was expected to and Robinson as well. BUt we need to move on.

I really don't want to see Hall till the last couple of games if at all. He is a long ways away from being a starter in this league. I would like to see more of Roberts.

Not to go OT here, but has anyone seen Will Davis? You know, the injured LB we kept over the injured on we let go(Cody Brown).

He's been starting in Clark Haggan's spot the last two weeks. He's been solid, but not spectacular.

I don't think we kept Davis over Cody Brown. We kept that Obizor guy over Cody Brown, and then Alex Hall.

Because Lenon has been making plays consistently... probably the only bright spot on the defense... what has Washington done so far?

Your kidding right?

Lenon sucks.

If by making plays you mean he has been consistently being caught in traffic and failing to plug the gap to allow big runs, then I agree with you.

I watch Watson, at NT, take on a blocker and drive him right down the line, forcing the RB to bounce farther outside. I figured a LBer would streak to the line and destroy Charles. Instead, he just kept running. I watched the replay, and there was Lenon, taking two steps the wrong way, then walking through cement to try and get to the play. Pathetic.

With our current starting lineup we have no speed at LB. I still like Hayes as a downhill plugger but he's not going to be chasing anyone down sideline to sideline, Porter, Haggens and Davis aren't stopping anyone from turning the corner and Lenon is just not that great of an athlete. Washington may make some mistakes but at least he has the speed to recover.

And those are all because of Lenon? Hmm...

How about these numbers?

Lenon:
Tackles: 69 total, 52 solo (leads team)
Tackles for loss: 5
Pass defensed: 4
Interceptions: 2
Forced fumbles: 1

Washington:
Tackles: 48 total, 39 solo (4th)
Tacles for loss: 2
Pass defensed: 0
Interceptions: 0
Forced fumbles: 0

I know Washington is the future and he has shown a lot of hustle, but to say he is out performing others and Lenon at this point is ridiculous.

But that is entire defense... entire defense is sucking in a major fashion right now... How about Adrian Wilson? What about Dockett? What has he done lately, or this season? We should bench him for Branch I guess since Branch's name has been called for often lately then DD. Same goes for every single player on the defense.

Right. And Lenon sucks just like the rest of them.

They could bench him for the rest of the season and we'd never even know he wasn't playing.

Your original post was comparing Lenon and Washingtion in terms of making plays... even though Washingtion may have speed, Lenon clearly has made more plays. I do agree that Washington is the future and we are at a point that we should now play our future players more to get them game experience since the season is done.

No I didn't. I was asking why a young guy was sitting on the bench while an old guy was starting ahead of him.

I don't see Lenon being so far superior to Washington that Daryl needs to be on the bench especially when the team is giving up 30 points a game and the odds of Lenon being on the team next season are slim and none.
