The Giants’ longest-tenured coach, safeties coach Dave Merritt - who has coached with team since 2004 - is returning to Arizona, where he played from 1993-‘95, per league source. Merritt will coach the Cardinals’ secondary.

The Giants secondary has been FUBAR. This does not look good.

Well he has 2 Super Bowl wins. The Giants had a damn good defenses those years including the secondary. I think this is an excellent hire.

Merritt helped develop S Landon Collins into an All-Pro in his second season where he set a Giants' record for tackles with 125.
Landon Collins came ready to go out of Alabama.

Kenny Phillips and Antrel Rolle also succeeded during Merritt's tenure

Got to love the amount of experience he has and under the same team for that long speaks volumes. Looks like a solid hire.

Merritt is a very good coach. He was the longest tenured Giants coach (14 years) on the staff till the end of this season.

If you honestly think that, I am sorry, but then you are kidding yourself. Nobody is ready to go straight out of college. Not Andrew Luck, not Patrick Peterson and not Landon Collins.

Dave Merritt definitely deserves credit for developing Collins.

Oh settle down. It's a dialogue and I am not drinking the Kool Aid yet. I find it difficult to jump on the band wagon for guys who are getting their big break for the 1st time. Can't we wait and see.

I did not mean to sound negative. I’m sorry about that. I was just trying to address your point with Landon Collins.

Also, I understand that you’re a bit skeptical regarding first time coaches. I am too. I just think we as fans are sometimes a little bit prone to undervalue what these coaches have actually done in their career.
