ACL can't be repaired. Only replaced. Of it a VERY rare grade 2 partial, they just hope it scars up. It doesn't heal. My daughter is dealing with grade 2 right now, lucky as hell. 6-8 week rehab. Full tear reconstruction is 9 months.

Meniscus is good news. They would know if anything was bad in the ligamenys from manipulation. Might have partials of MCL/LCL but if they say acl is OK that means they can feel it. That's real good.

It's been so long ago I forgot. They cut a ligament to fix it. I a nasty scar on the side of my knee and a smaller one below my knee. I can't stand OU but their surgeon they used on some of their players at that time fixed me up. I'm thankful it's worked out

That is 100% false.

But glad for your daughter. I had a grade 2 on my MCL a few years back and it sucked. The ACL would have to be worse.

Surgery for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries involves reconstructing or repairing the ACL.

• ACL reconstruction surgery uses a graft to replace the ligament. The most common grafts are autografts using part of your own body, such as the tendon of the kneecap (patellar tendon) or one of the hamstring tendons. Sometimes the quadriceps tendon from above the kneecap is used. Another choice is allograft tissue, which is taken from a deceased donor.
• Repair surgery typically is used only in the case of an avulsion fracture (a separation of the ligament and a piece of the bone from the rest of the bone). In this case, the bone fragment connected to the ACL is reattached to the bone.

Glad your daughters is not a full tear. Hope she makes a full recovery

Talked to my brother who is a doctor at MD Anderson in Houston, he said for the most part the meniscus damage can heal though later in life it could result in arthritic pain... without seeing an MRI, he said he should be fine next season though it will take the length of the off season for it to heal on its own

Its not false. The fracture is not a ligament tear. It is a bone break pinned back. The ACL cannot be repaired in FDA approved surgery (some platelet spinning is another thing).

Grafts are reconstructions, not repair. That is what happens in ACL surgery as we know it. I had grade 2 LCL tear and patellar tendon tear. Non surgical, they can heal. You also can stitch an MCL or LCL back together, staple it to the bone, or you can graft it. Not the case with the ACL. If it is fully torn, which in 98+% of the cases it is, it has to be reconstructed. Again, the repair listed above in your link is bone repair, not ligament repair.

Even in my daughters case of a partial ligament tear (hers is 40%-50%), it's not healing, it is building scar tissue. We've been through this with 3 doc opinions because of the rarity of her injury - and its never going to recover perfectly. She's at higher risk for a full tear even with the scar tissue. However, they think it will be stronger than a reconstruction. After rehab, stability will determine if she will require reconstruction or not. Some partial tears need reconstruction, some don't, and again its real rare.
