Davids first show back since Johnny died. Entire show is dedicated to Carson.
I have read a review of the show but won't post it so not to spoil it.
Should be a good show and moving experience.
I'll watch it.

I didn't know about it. How was it? What happened?

I heard on radio today the show contacted agents for Rodney Dangerfield to ask him to appear on the show, apparently they hadn't noticed Rodney died 3 months ago!

Wow...even in death he still doesnt get any respect....

Sorry...couldnt resist...wonder if that is his epitaph on his tombstone?

To respond to the original question....I missed the 1st half hour of lastnights special, however they had long-time Tonight Show Executive Producer, Peter Lassally share many of his most initmate/fond memories of Carson....

I believe the best part was when they had some members from the original Tonight Show Orchestra (Doc Severinsen, Tommy Newsom, and Ed Shauhnessy) perform during the closing credits....

I must admit that I'm not a fan of David Letterman, however, I thought it was fitting on how "subdued/lowkey" his tribute was.... just very genuine....

That was it exactly, very genuine.
The opening monologue was all jokes that Carson had recently written for Letterman. Dave did not disclose this until he sat down.
What was evident to me, and Dave in no played this up, was how much Johnny mentored Dave and really liked him.
If it had been up to Johnny the Tonight Show would have been Daves.
There was a lot of love and respect between the two men.

Actually it was CNN trying to get Rodney. :D

Dangerfield: No Comment on Carson
1/31/2005 09:30AM

A long-time publicist for Rodney Dangerfield was surprised to get a call from a reporter at CNN last week, asking for a soundbyte from the comic on the death and the legacy of Johnny Carson, according to The New York Post. Kevin Sasaki said that unless CNN had a satellite hook-up to the afterlife, the comment would not be possible. Dangerfield passed away last October. Clips from Dangerfield's over 70 appearances on The Tonight Show can be found on the Dangerfield's DVD set called, The Ultimate No Respect Collection," that was just released last month.

That makes a lot more sense.
I found it a little hard to believe that Dave and his staff would forget that Rodney was dead.

Letterman's Pet Tricks To Go HD

By Ken Kerschbaumer -- Broadcasting & Cable, 8/11/2005 1:26:00 PM

High-definition broadcasts of The Late Show with David Letterman will begin on Monday, Aug. 29, according to a show spokesman.

The show will be on a summer vacation from Aug. 15-29, giving technical crews two weeks to make sure the new technical facilities (which include a Sony HD production switcher) are up and working properly.

It's about time.

Awesome!

I just got my HD TV a month ago, and was bummed that Leno was the only one in HD...

Letterman rocks, it's about time.

I just wanted to add a Letterman thread...for those of us who love the guy :)

I Tivo him every night, and usually watch most of the show when I get home from work in the afternoons...

He's just hilarious...I think the best late night guy on TV.

( I also merged some other Letterman topics into this one)
