I was watching NFL Access this morning and they were talking about Leonard Davis. They mentioned that he was the greatest concen on their offensive line. The reasons mentioned were old hat, feet to slow, run blocks real well, but pass blocking is very suspect.

I find that interesting on two levels. First, you would think that their biggest concern would be left tackle with the exit of Flozell Adams. Second, has the luster fallen off the behemoth ex-left tackle, and recent pro bowl player?

In retrospect it looks like we made the right move in letting him go and not over paying for a guard who is incomplete at his position.

For a 400lb dude he had roller skate feet in pass pro, even as a guard in his younger days.

Davis has lived off his natural talent forever. He has never busted his ass to be his best. Thats is why he has shown flashes of being great but never was consistently great. I would of loved to keep him, but not at his price.

Please!!! He's had a few GREAT years there. I don't mind knocing a player who left, but he's been a pro bowl guard for them. Cards misused him as a tackle. Only one to blame here is Cards management and the old coaching staff.

He's been worth every penny for them.

I've seen him play the past few years and he dominates the line of scrimage.

He's better than deuce or wells at guard.

Knock all u want, but he's a dang goo guard I wish we had used properly.

Reminds me of the TE we lost to Dallas who was awesome once gone.

Weird, because on NFL Radio they were praising him, and saying how much of an asset he was now at RG.

I am not knocking him, just relaying one report that was on Total Access this morning. I think part of the Probowl voting is due to playing with the Cowboys. I would argue that we will get as much or more out of Faneca at a much more reasonable price. In 2007 the Cowboys made him the highest paid NFL player, and he was the 19th highest paid athlete that year. He would not have made a huge impact to our team that year.

I met the man, and found him to be a pure gentleman, on the few occasions that I was able to talk to him. I am just not in the belief that a guard should be your highest paid player. Watch the show, I think it re airs tonight, it was just one report out of the many that are given on the Cowboys.

As far as the photo being my wife, my wife does not fill her swimsuit that well. That is my girlfriend!

just remember that NFL total access talk football opinion 24/7. so not everything that they say will always be completely on the mark. If davis is your biggest concern that is a good thing. maybe he isn't worth the price if you want to go there, but the cowboys were desperate at that time and if they didn't pay him the redskins would have. Every year in free agency you see a player or two(especially if the market is thin) get paid like that. 2 former AZ players made good on this again this past offseason. This is not to say that the cardinals should not have let him go...they probably did the right thing. I think davis has been stable and a good leader on the team.

However, as a cowboys fan and realist, davis is the least of the concern up front. I would say the biggest concern are the tackles in pass protection. that is what killed them in the playoff loss. columbo got worked in that game. To his defense he was coming off of a broken leg and the vikings DE's at home are tough to stop. There isn't as much concern about replacing flozell because doug free played brilliantly in the 8 games that colombo missed. Although, it was the other side. Apparantly doug free is a natural left tackle anyway.

:mulli: Hey, we played him out of position, if "WHIZ & RUSS" had him he would be an All-Pro just like he is now. Wish he played for us.

:!shocker!:

But, we were idiots for letting him go, and not paying him 40/50 million dollars.

He was good enough to be a pro bowl player. I don't like listening to the talking heads about us. What makes you think they are right about the big man. IMO we ruined him by playing him at guard. Then we throw him into Tackle. We spent big money on him without a plan to get all the oil out of his gut.

I know this was a pre-season thread but I thought it was relevant again. I still think we were wise to let someone else pay him ridicules money. The Cowboys backed up the truckload of money and have one playoff win with him, and you know what we have done without him. Some positions are not worth blowing your wad on.
