He's a good pick this late in the draft as well. I also wouldn't mind using a 6th on Dennis Dixon. A year or two on the practive sqd and he might be ready to compete for a job.

you cant put Dixon on the PS...he'd be picked up immediately

in the next few rounds they need a pass rushing OLB, a speed back, OT, and some kickers as FAs

I would even consider trying to trade next years 2nd rounder for 2 3rds this year. The Ravens and the NE each have 3- 3rd rounders.

Kehl was on my board....but not until the 4th or 5th round......he still would be an excellent LBer pick no matter where.

Really shows the depth of this draft becuase I like all of these guys and we are pretty much gauranteed that one will be there.

LB - Connor
CB - King
RB - Charles
OLB - Cliff Avril
RB - Kevin Smith
OT - Anthony Collins
OL - Mike McGlynn
OT - Oniel Cousins
CB - Antwaun Molden
Maybe a WR like Early Doucet
Ot - Jeremy Zuttah
Lb - Phillip Wheeler
Ot - Carl Nicks

I really hope it is one of the two running backs though because after them I could really care less about the next level of talent and think that talent really drops off after Charles and Smith.

For the rest of the draft I think I am going with this prediction (I think they really focus on the run game with the next 2-3 picks):

3rd round RB - Kevin Smith
4th round FB - Owen Schmitt
5th thru 7 round - One OL, one WR, and another DB.

RB Ryan Torain is my firewall. If the Cardinals have not picked up a RB before he comes off the Board then I will feel bleak.

Thsi team wants a break away back that has game changing ability. Torain ran a 4.64 40 time. Nowhere near what Graves and Whisenhunt said they are looking for. He will not be a Cardinal!

He could replace Shipp as the goal line back. I would take him in the 6th. We still need that "home run" guy in the 3rd or 4th though.

Anyone have any clue as to why Connor has crashed and burned?? I would love to see us trade up and get him with the 1st pick tomorrow.

Like I said in my fearless draft predictions thread, he won't fall out of the...oh, day one is over, isn't it? Um...bold prediction #2...Connor WILL be drafted! :billthecat:

Then they would be drafting 2 RB's in the draft and I just dont see it.

Im betting we go RB, OL, LB/WR, WR/LB, OL

I know fullback isn't too high on anyones list, but I watched Hester from LSU live and we all watched him in the Championship game. I think he's tough as nails and it wouldn't be a bad thing if we drafted him IMO

He was injured for the year and only had if I remember correctly 1 week to prepare for the combine. Couple of weeks later he ran a 4.51 at his pro day. If he had the time to speed train like the rest of the prospects he would have been in the 4.4 to 4.45 range IMO.

Maybe. maybe not. Even 4.51 isnt what one would consider game changing speed IMO. Thats what the Cards have to go off is those two times. I highly doubt he is a Card when all is said and done. (bold prediction I know) :)

Torain is coming off an injury so I'm not sure about his time. Also I think his injury caused his stock to drop. I do know one thing he has very good game speed. I know ASU's running game never recovered without him. He is the type back that gets stronger as the game progresses especially in the second half. Also he can flat out run over people and break tackles. He at least would make a great third down back. If there are better remaining RB's on the Draft Board the Cardinals can draft, I have no problem with it.

I am also excited for Day 2 as there are many guys that I like that are still available. Not surprising since we have only had 2 rounds which feels really weird.

3-DaJuan Morgan - S. We need some insurance if Rolle does not pan out. Athleic free safety with talent.

4-Tashard Choice - RB. A true running back that is better on tape than in workouts.

5-Geoff Schwartz - OT/OG. Mauler w/ some athletic limitations. Played tackle in college but might be a pro guard.

6-Curtis Gatewood - OLB/DE. Tweener w/ pass rush upside. Should be available but better players could drop who we would get instead.

7-Franklin Dunbar - OT. Very raw. Left school early to make money for family and will take time to develop but shows potential to be a contributer.

I think we are Jamaal Charles away from a playoff team. That is a bold statement but we addressed everything, #1 CB in Round 1, Pass Rushing 3-4 DE in Round 2, a big play back in Round 3, a LT prospect, Nickel Back, P, and 3rd string QB are all we need

Ideal Day 2 goes:

3 - RB Jamaal Charles
4 - OT Anthony Collins, Tony Hills
5 - CB DaJuan Tribble
6 - P Durant Brooks
7 - QB Alex Brink

Maybe a WR like Dexter Jackson if 4-7 if my original pick is not there.

He's Anquan Boldin out of the backfield...No need for 4.4 speed when you can break a tackle or two ;)

Usually after the second round my excitement (and player knowledge) drops to zero. This year, the number of quality players still on the board is amazing to me. I'm happy with any of the following:

Jamaal Charles RB Texas

Kevin Smith, RB Central Florida

Jeremy Thompson DE/LB Wake Forest :D

Cliff Avril DE/LB Purdue

Bryan Kehl LB BYU

Oniel Cousins OL UTEP

We'll get a real good player there. That's why I said we should get 3-4 solid players and some developmentals thereafter.

Tell me about Jeremy Thompson. What do you know about him? Fast?

The NFL Network said it was a question of strength. When he makes a tackle, he and not the ball carrier goes backward. They did say he has good instincts and gets to the ball, just doesn't seem strong enough.
A good weight training program can make a guy get stronger. Tough to "coach up" someone with poor instincts!!

Here are some of the high-profile players who will likely be selected on Day 2 -- players who excelled in major conferences against other NFL prospects.
Andre Woodson, Kentucky, QB: As one of the SEC's most prolific passers, Woodson torched defenses in the top conference in the country. Though scouts knock his long windup and delivery, Woodson has the potential to develop into a solid starter. A team would be wise to take a chance on the former Wildcat early on Day 2.
John David Booty, Southern Cal, QB: The Trojans' two-time captain has the experience of running the west coast offense could be a solid starter if surrounded with the proper weapons.
Jamaal Charles, Texas, RB: The three-time All Big 12 selection amassed 1,619 yards as junior. He has outstanding speed and big-play potential. He would be an ideal fit as a change-of-pace back for a team with an established runner.
Tashard Choice, Georgia Tech, RB: The two-time ACC rushing leader is underrated, but his natural running skills and toughness are ideal for the pro game. He will be a solid every down back for a power running offense.
Mario Manningham, Michigan, WR: The Big Ten receiving leader has been downgraded due to concerns about his character and speed, but his natural receiving skills give him the chance to be a legitimate No.1 receiver.
Dan Connor, Penn State, LB: The Nittany Lions' all-time leader in tackles doesn't have outstanding speed or great athleticism, but has a knack for playing the game.
Ali Highsmith, LSU, LB: The All-American had over 100 tackles as a senior but saw his stock plummet after a horrendous showing at the combine. Despite lacking elite athleticism and speed, Highsmith is a natural playmaker who plays the game better than he works out.
Beau Bell, UNLV, LB: The Mountain West's Defensive Player of the Year is a tackling machine with outstanding instincts and awareness. Though he lacks ideal speed, he could be a fixture in the middle one day.
Justin King, Penn State, CB: The All-Big Ten selection is one of the most athletic players in the draft. Though he has been labeled as an underachiever by some scouts, he has all of the tools to become a solid starter. Some team will take a chance on him early on the second day because of his intriguing upside.
Tom Zbikowski, Notre Dame, S: The professional boxer is not regarded as an outstanding athlete, but his toughness and intangibles makes him an ideal special teams player. Regardless of where Zbikowski is eventually picked, expect him to carve out a successful career as a special teams standout.

Please stop with all the Owen Schmitt talk. The guy is,at best, a 7th round prospect. FB is an outdated position. You can get just as effective one that's an UDFA as you would wasting a pick on Schmitt. So he broke some face masks in college, big deal.

I was making a statement about dixon, not the Cards particularly. He'll make a good pro after some seasoning.

Replace Tribble with Ikegwuona and Brink with Best available OG, but I agree with the rest, and the way the draft is unfolding it could happen. Also Dexter Jackson went in the 2nd if I remember correctly.

I would agree if all he did was block. But he can run, catch, and knock some heads on special teams as well.
