US Major League Baseball is coming to Sydney, with the opening series of next season - between the LA Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks - to be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground next March.

In a $13 million coup for the state government, the opening series of the MLB will be held at the SCG on Saturday March 22 and Sunday March 23 - the first time a competitive US baseball fixture will be held in Australia and only the sixth time one has been staged outside America.

Wow - good exposure for the Dbacks - but hope it doesn't affect season too much

The day after the two teams do their best impersonation of an Australian rugby scrum they want to send them to Australia next season for a series.

Oh the irony...

I bet you are!

How expensive is it to get to Sydney from Tasmania?

Can generally get sale flights ~$59 one way, $99 at most. I've never actually been to Sydney (bar the airport on the way to America), but my sister recently moved there so I'm set for accommodation ;)

Seems like ticket prices will be steep, which is fair enough considering travel and a fairly extensive reconfiguration. Still don't know how they can turn an oval into a baseball field, will be interesting

Sounds like a great excuse to visit - and since you wouldn't be paying for lodging, you can splurge on the tickets

Splurging on tickets is non-negotiable! Cheap seats be $69, 1st/3rd base $189...

Behind home $499!

Letting 300 soccer hooligans loose on the back corner for about 3 hours ought to do it.
