This team should NOT be "buyers" at the deadline. They are NOT a playoff team.
There is no consistency in any area of their game. Yes the score lots of runs but its always feast or famine. The starting pitching was great for a while but now is up and down from one day to the next. Goldy carried the team for a while but has disappeared for almost 6 weeks now. AHMED IS NOW ONE OF THE 4 BEST HITTERS ON THE TEAM!?!?!
Yup... Been saying these things for a while now. We need a consistent power threat, desperately... to support Goldy. Tomas is fine but it seems he will never fill that slot. Which is ok IF we had more power production from Left Field or 3rd Base.
I still don't see Peralta as an every day player. But I guess if he and Inciarte were sharing time, maybe that could work - though they are both lefty hitters.
And second base is a HUGE hole in our offense. It's essentially an automatic out no matter if it's Owings or Hill...
I am not at all sold on Lamb. He's got a ton to prove before I would say he's a legit starter at 3rd base. Solid defense, but still lots to prove at the plate.
I really like both our catchers... however, while nice defensive options, Salty in particular is simply awful at the plate...
As for our rotation, clearly Corbin's road back is going to take some time. He's showing glimpses that indicate he is on the right path, but his endurance - both physically and mentally, are a long way off...
Both Ruby and Chase are failing miserably as of late. Both are at best #'s 4 or 5 rotation guys...
Robbie Ray is actually our best starter by a HUGE/WIDE margin. Hellickson is showing he can be somewhat reliable, so maybe he's at best a #3, maybe a #4 and hold your breath kinda a guy.
Who knows what will transpire with Archie... Shoulder issues are never a good sign for a pitcher. And we really don't know if he can get over the smash to his face...
Our pen is at best, average... Even though he's been good more than bad, I am not in love with Ziegler as our closer... and I wonder why Huddy isn't used more often in that spot. Burgos has shown some glimpses to indicate he's got some upside, but again, has a ton still to prove...
Chafin has been really good at times, and really ugly at times...
Hernandez has been more bad than good IMO.
Delgado has been very inconsistent as well...
In any event, Derek Hall said last week that any moves they make will be with the long term in mind, focusing on building depth and NOT going after a short-term rental player... Guess we'll see.
