That was huge...winning vs. Young and Peavy. Now we are in 1st with the tiebreaker and a well-deserved rest tomorrow. After having played more games than anyone the whole season, there's a whole lot of off-days and home games left.

simply awesome fight shown by this team - they completely blow a 5 game lead over the course of a week and a half, lose the first game at home staring SD 1 and 2 in the face and kick the ever living crap out of both, taking back first place.

really proud of what this team has done this year and what they continue to do.

Now we're back in business! It sure looked bleak with the game 1 loss knowing SD's best 2 arms were going to throw but this team found some way to win 2 games. Wow.

We're back tied in the loss column and have a 2-win head start on getting what we need to take the division.

Rest up tomorrow and beat the Cards!!!

O/T I have actually liked the order Melvin has been putting out there with Drew in the leadoff spot...he seems to be trying to be more patient there to draw some walks and stuff. And CY down a little further can finally get some RBI's. I also really liked the aggressive baserunning, it's such an advantage to be able to get into scoring position without an out.

If the Dbacks are in the postseason this game is the reason. On the flip side, should the Padres somehow be left out, this game was the reason.

I say yes, because I think Peavy wins the Cy Young Award, and if SD wins this series just like last week we need a lot of help to get back even.

But we'll need a lot more Biggest Wins of the Year before this thing is done.

If they tie I'm pretty sure they will have a one-game playoff.

Only if one of the teams won't make the playoffs. If SD/AZ tie for first and whoever doesn't win the division would be the wild card anyway, the team with the head-to-head series win (i.e. AZ) is declared the division champ and both teams make the postseason.

But if there's a tie and, say, the Cubs finish 2nd in the Central with a better record than both SD/AZ we'd have the one-game playoff to see who wins the West and who stays home.

For what it's worth, I think it was either Sutton or Grace who said that Montero is starting to get on pitchers' nerves. Or did I see that in the paper?

What was up between Pena and Montero?

Montero wanted Pena to throw his fastball, last night Pena wasn't trusting his fastball, only his slider. Pena kept shaking off the fastball signal so Montero got irked and went out to the mound a couple of times.

The last time it happened you could see Montero give in and sort of tell Pena "Alrighty then, slider it is".

Of course right after that Pena's fastball came around just fine so who knows.
