The Diamondbacks placed outfielder Jason Kubel on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left quadriceps and reinstated outfielder Cody Ross from the DL.
Kubel said he hurt his quad while rounding third base in Milwaukee last week. He felt more discomfort while running the bases in Friday night’s game, prompting the team to send him for an MRI on Saturday.
He said the field at Miller Park was not in good condition “When I was taking breaks in the outfield, the grass was giving out,” he said. “I felt like when I came around third I stepped in like an inch or two-inch deep pothole and it didn’t feel good. Right away, my hips were hurting.”
Kubel is hitting .333 with two homers in 33 plate appearance.
Ross, whom the Diamondbacks signed to a three-year, $26 million deal in the off-season, opened the year on the disabled list with a left calf strain, an injury he suffered early in spring training.
Ross went just 2 for 16 (.167) in six games on a rehab assignment with High-A Visalia. He moved to Triple-A Reno on Friday and went 2 for 3 with a double and a walk.
“I feel good,” he said. “I went to Visalia. It was a little tough, but yesterday I played in Reno and I felt comfortable. It was just a matter of timing and seeing (the ball).”
