Diamondbacks placed C Miguel Montero on the 15-day disabled list with a torn meniscus in his right knee.

Tests revealed Sunday that Montero will require surgery, which is rough news for one of our favorite sleepers. If it's just a torn mensicus, then Montero could be back within a month. But there's the possibility more significant damage will be found. Chris Snyder's value just rose significantly.

Chris Snyder will now be starting and John Hester was just recalled from Triple-A to back-up. This is not good news as Montero was really starting to become one of the better hitting catchers in the NL.

He should have run over Duke, you don't stand in the baseline like that.

Luckily they didn't trade Snyder in the offseason.

I advocated Montero as the starting Catcher during spring training . . . a year ago. So I am certainly a fan of Miguel.

But Snyder is a solid Catcher and John Hester is a solid backup (both offensively and defensively).

However long Miggy is out, we'll be OK.

And if Snyder had been traded, we would've been OK with Hester and a backup from the Minors. John Hester is going to be a good Major League starting Catcher when given the chance.
