Can Kubel play RF?
Can Kubel play RF?
I was just wondering if Parra would make more sense there.
I would think RF is an easier position to play - less traffic there.
Where would Upton play though in this scenario?

Traded for an elite 3B
Not that I am advocating this.
Take this at COMPLETE face value, but it wouldn't stun me one bit to see some kind of swap involving Parra and Chase Headley. San Diego needs a LF, pretty badly too and Arizona certainly could use help at 3B.
On top of things, Headley was a Towers draft pick and I know Parra was a Josh Byrnes favorite.
Again, no juice to this rumor, but again... Wouldn't surprise me.
They're not trading Upton, and right field can be a tricky place to play depending on the field. I think right field at Chase is pretty fair (doesn't carry, but doesn't die either), but tracking the ball against the Chase back drop is not fun. I think it was Reggie Sanders who pointed that out.
I think the best guess I've seen so far is Parra is trade bat in a multi-package deal. The only problem is I don't think it's for a 3rd baseman. I think it's for a pitcher (or pitchers), because that's been their pursuit the entire off-season. Kubel was out of nowhere because they've been so focused on pitching.
I'm starting to wonder if this is not a prelude to Stephen Drew moving to 3rd.
Reds fan here, we been discussing Parra over on our site and think that we could potentially match up for a trade. What are the Dbacks priorities - #5 starter? 3B? SS prospect? We have several #5 starters (Wood, Bailey, Arroyo, etc.) and a 3B prospect (Francisco) and a AA SS (Gregorius). Any of those peek your interests?
I hope you're right, but I just don't see how he will be a big enough of an upgrade at the plate to justify the steep price and massive drop off defensively.Look at Kubel's stats when they played in the Metrodome. That is a good comparison for Chase. He will hit well here.

I was thinking you'd rather have Parra's arm in right field and move Upton back to the infield somewhere. Random thought, though. Just thinking that because Upton came up at SS, maybe he'd have 3B/1B talent.
I'd take Francisco in a heartbeat in Arizona, but would the Reds be willing to trade him after moving Alonso?
That is entirely possible at 3B (I'm convinced Goldschmidt is getting the mass of the looks at 1B). However, Upton's arm strength was a killer for him at SS, I wonder if the issue won't be the same at 3B.
Upton's arm strength has never been in question. It is one of the best in baseball. It was his accuracy that was/is his issue. Also no chance you move him. He has settled in and become one of the best defensive RF (bitch all you want but a fact is a fact). By moving him to 3rd you create all new problems of having 2 guys playing in positions they are unfamiliar with.
Buddy, Im advocating KEEPING Upton at RF for that very reason. His defense is extremely strong and hes only getting better.
As for arm strength (I apologize for my vague comment before), I meant his arm accuracy was a little too inaccurate in the IF. Hes perfect at RF in that area though.
Upton is 6-2. His height and flexibility were the biggest thing there. We could debate whether that's really an issue or not, but it's a big reason they moved him to the outfield.
At this point in his career, you don't move him unless he gets injured and loses a step or two. He's not Tony Womack. He's an MVP candidate.
I must have read it wrong. My bad.
