I'm hoping he can hit and catch and will be dumping two of the three we have now at some point.

He can't. I don't really understand this trade at all. He's hitting .222 in AAA and the pitcher we gave up as a 0.82 ERA in AA. I don't know why we would give up a pitching prospect for a light hitting catcher.

Iannetta and Mathis are ranked in the top 10 in pitch framing this year. Last year, Castillo was ranked 80's-90s in MLB.

Team this year 134 ERA+, team last year 87 ERA+.

For those who keep bitching about our Catchers this year.

Why give up a decent pitcher/closer for a low level catcher? I don't get this trade either.

Framing is nice but it won't make those numbers move like that. Walker wasn't even on the team. Miller was a head case. Greinke had a worst ever for him 4.37 ERA in 2016 down to 2.92 in 2017. Ray is down from 4.90 to 3.15 and getting better. Corbin is still a head case in the first inning and good after that. Much better than last year. Godley is like a new man. An ERA of 6.39 down to 3.32 and looking better all the time. If you want to credit all of that to framing well ok. IMO we would do better with a full time catcher that's all around decent. Maybe Mathis will be that guy time will tell.

This is one of those moves where I just have to accept that the FO knows more about the whole situation than I do. lol Because to my layman baseball eyes, it makes no sense.
