Maddux vs. Vargas in the first game of the series tomorrow. I think its safe to say this is the biggest homestand of the year for the Dbacks with three against the Dodgers and three against the Padres.

Maddux vs. Vargas could be a slow game -- just hope the good Claudio shows up.

This homestand is the season.

Tracy blew two golden opportunities to end the game. Pull your head out please....

And most likely there goes the game in the 11th. Blown opportunities by the DBacks and Tracy in particular with some meatballs served up by Vargas. Kudos to the bullpen minus Valverde.

Dissappointing given the way this game was served up for the DBacks, but they still have the bottom half of the 11th.

And why pitch to Drew with an open base? What was that about Melvin? He has four of the 7 RBI for the Dodgers. Sometimes Melvin just doesn't get it. Little walks Gonzo twice to get to Tracy who rewards him with forgettable plate appearances and it looks like it will win him the game. Melvin pitches to their best hitter (at least tonight) with a base open and most likely pays for it. Bright.

Valverde pitched well except to Drew. Why didn't Melvin walk Drew when first base opened up with two outs?

That was fortunate. Cmon Q! Nice job. Tied it up again. Good job by three of the young-uns there. I wouldn't go with Estrada here, but perhaps pinch hitting will get him going... A HBP works well too. Way to take one for the team Estrada.

Melvin probably wishes he had Callaspo about this time. I do not understand sending him back in favor of Clark. Clark is not needed the rest of this season and beyond.

I guess a SO for Easley is better than a DP!

Cmon Byrnes. Just one more hit.

Nope, to the 12th we go. I hope that Batista can eat up some innings tomorrow...

Another nice start to the inning, this time the bottom of the 12th. O-dog with a single off of Sele....

And promptly erased by a weak Gonzo pop-up and yet another Tracy DP. This guy can't catch a break tonight. This is the third straight game-on-the-line situation tonight in which he has failed miserably, not even advancing a runner.... On to the 13th.

How many times is Tracey going to choke. He is not the third baseman of the future

He is still young and the only one with power (however little) in the lineup right now. He is just pressing way too much.

Good dealing from Pena. On to the bottom half of the 13th. Lucky inning, I hope. Jackson starts us off right again. Cmon Drew.

Keep it going. The first two are on - just like the 11th - so let's score - just like the 11th.

Cmon Q, end it here so that I don't need to watch Estrada..... Nevermind, sac is good. Just a deep fly here Johnny, "You can do it!"

Nice move by Little. Who is going to hit now? Out of position players I think. How bout a suicide squeeze with Livan at the plate?

Well, I called the hitter, now let's see the play... Better a SO than a DP. Byrnes will have another chance. Mistakes earlier in the game are really taking their toll here.

Unbeleivable. These young guys have to move down in the order. They keep setting the table and no one can bring them in. Lame. Bases loaded, one out, and TWO strikeouts against Aaron Sele!!!!!!!

Uh oh, Lyon is in. Not a good thing, IMO. It's midnight and I am rapidly running out of steam here.. (and I know that some of you are saying that that is a good thing :D )

Looks like Sele will go the distance for the Dodgers tonight. Great inning by Lyon, even though he always makes me nervous. Kind of like the days of Mantei.

Why is Melvin having Carlos bunt? He thinks Livan is going to come off the bench and get the run in. He is a moron.

Can't argue with you there. His in-game management seems to lack quite a bit, IMO. But if the young guys like him and will play hard for him, then that might be more important at this stage.

Great job CJ, but when it rains it pours and Gonzo can't get home from third.... What is the record for men left on base by the DBacks? This is getting pretty pathetic.

Nice walk off homer by Hudson.

Although, what the hell is wrong with Tracy? TWO inning ending double plays in a row - with the bases loaded!

Finally! O-dog comes through with the two-run shot. To center no less! The funny thing is that is was only possible because Sele walked Lyon. Strange game. I thought it was over in the 11th, but I am pleased with the effort. Sometimes the intermediate results (innings 8-14) don't match the effort. Nice win. Game ball to Hudson for the walk-off.

Batista needs to have the mindset of going at least 7 tomorrow, although 8 or 9 would be fantastic.

I missed the game. Glad too see we won but I am wondering why in these situations, Juan Cruz only comes in for an inning, or .2 innings in this case. I don't get why they don't let a former starter pitch but overwork Medders and tire out Lyon(who starts to fade at the end of seasons I guess...) And Juan Cruz didn't even allow a base runner in his last two appearances in these long games...

Not the best way to win a game, but with a month left you'll take them any way you can. Lowe vs. Batista tomorrow.

But have to say, Carlos put down a gorgeous bunt. A stupid way to use him, but nice to see he could do it. This kid is going to be such a stud. He has some knowledgeable, generally skeptical baseball fans I know flat-out swooning over him.

You can thank me and my two pals for the rookies setting the table over and over. We issued explicit instructions to the rooks once we hit extra innings, and they did pretty much as we ordered, at least when that cud-chewing dimwit Melvin didn't muck things up. Trained like cats!

Melvin is a total dunce. It just drives me to drink that he got a two year extension.

Tracy needs to sit for a couple games; let Counsell handle third. Tracy is choking severely -- and putting him in the 4-spot is just nincompoopery to the nth degree!! I still don't think he's the 3rd base of the future, and I think that as our new crop matures, his limitations will become ever more obvious, but he's being tortured out there at the moment and it's painful. His body language is just busted.

To answer my own question - from today's Republic - "Conor Jackson was 4-for-6 and reached base seven times for the Diamondbacks, who tied a club record by leaving 21 runners on base.

Good job CJ and most of the young ones.
