But have to say, Carlos put down a gorgeous bunt. A stupid way to use him, but nice to see he could do it. This kid is going to be such a stud. He has some knowledgeable, generally skeptical baseball fans I know flat-out swooning over him.

You can thank me and my two pals for the rookies setting the table over and over. We issued explicit instructions to the rooks once we hit extra innings, and they did pretty much as we ordered, at least when that cud-chewing dimwit Melvin didn't muck things up. Trained like cats!

Melvin is a total dunce. It just drives me to drink that he got a two year extension.

Tracy needs to sit for a couple games; let Counsell handle third. Tracy is choking severely -- and putting him in the 4-spot is just nincompoopery to the nth degree!! I still don't think he's the 3rd base of the future, and I think that as our new crop matures, his limitations will become ever more obvious, but he's being tortured out there at the moment and it's painful. His body language is just busted.

I'm actually somewhat dissapointed with Carlos. He came out hot, but aside from his defense he has been a liability recently. I'm thinking that it's a simple rookie slump, but his average has dropped to .237, and he swings at EVERYTHING.

I'm hoping that he picks it back up, because he has a TON of ability / potential.

Patience, patience, patience. Potential takes time to turn into actuality, and I promise -- he'll get there. He's always adjusted, he just takes a little time.

His defense last night alone may have saved the game -- that one running nab in the RF corner was amazing, if you were there to see it. He and Drew both have been big difference-makers defensively.

Just got back from the game (just kidding :) ). That was a crazy one. It was like we started every one of the extra innings with the bases loaded. Good job O-dawg finally getting it done.

Gotta get another one tonight. There's games are home are huge.

The two items in your first sentence tell it all about Tracy.

Tracy is choking severly.
He came up three times in a row during extra innings, with either 2 or 3 runners on base, and (in this order) popped up and hit into two double plays. He left eight runners on base in 3 AB from the "cleanup" position.

Putting him in the 4-spot is just nincompoopery.
And that's why! That reflects on both our General Manager and Manager. Byrne hasn't provided a cleanup hitter and Melvin evidently hasn't made it clear to his team that we are without a cleanup hitter -- let's win our games by hitting 'em in the gap.

Line drives. Like Gonzo is doing. (Funny how most posters wanted Luis gone, but he is the only one using his skills properly.)

Did Melvin learn it from Bob Brenley when he was his bench coach . . . or was Brenley influenced by Melvin. Put the ball in the air.

Whether the rock hits the pitcher or the pitcher hits the rock, it's not good for the pitcher -- the kind that holds a liquid, not the one on the mound. (That's from an old Broadway musical, "Man of LaMancha".)

Either way, popups characterized most of Brenley's D'backs teams. Finley, Womack, etc.

Doubled the Dodgers in hits (10-5) and still lose (4-3). Not good. Rubber match tomorrow afternoon.

I was at tonights game and felt like I was in LA. (At least 30% of the place was Dodger fans.)

Great game though, too bad the wrong team won.

This loss hurts. The team had the Dodgers on the ropes a couple of times and couldnt capitalize. LA obviously had to go to their pen a lot last night since it went 15, and they had to go to their pen early again tonight with Lowe injured. At that moment the Dodgers were in an extremely vulnerable position and the Dbacks didnt get much going. Orlando Hudson had a pretty awful game. He lollygaged on a fairly routine play early in the game where he was beaten to the bag by the catcher with two outs allowing to score, he failed to tag up and run to third on a ball hit to the warning track with nobody out later on in the game, and immediately after had an ill advised stolen base attempt and was out by a mile. You can't make those kind of mistakes against a division rival in the middle of a playoff race and expect to win.

Miguel Batista had a solid game. He wasn't dominant and got himself into trouble a few times but at the end of the day went eight strong innings, something the team obviously needed after last night's marathon. The crowd was absolutely loud tonight, even though there were a good bit of LA fans. It almost had a playoff type feel tonight, a lot of the fans realize the importance of this homestand and the ballpark was more alive tonight than I've seen it in months.

Am I the only one who looked at tonight's lineup and thought "wow, that is really just an awful looking lineup"?

A few mental lapses on the base paths and in the field, hopefully Lowe is OK he took a real shot.

Oh, and I agree with coyoteshockeyfan, the stadium was rocking tonight like I haven't seen it in a long, long time. It was great to see.

Nice to see the Dbacks strike first as Tracy as an RBI hit with two outs. 1-0 Arizona in the 2nd.

That sucked...I was in section 109, row 26. So many Dodgers fans, it was like we were playing in LA almost.

Johnny Estrada is our leading hitter -- that is if he had enough at-bats to qualify, which he doesn't.

He's also an excellent defensive Catcher.

And, I believe he's started just one of the last three games.

No wonder we're reading that he wants out of Arizona next season.

Whose payroll is Bob Melvin on anyway?

Johnny Estrada has been in bad shape lately due to battling a stomach ulcer. Yet he is still 12th in all of MLB in plate appearance for a catcher.
