Claudio Vargas on the hill tonight. Surely, this team has to wake up sooner or later...

This team has been asleep since May. Can't think of one good reason why they'll wake up now.

They beter try and trade some vets in the next week although I doubt there will be any takers.

You know what's frustrating? The D'Backs have been playing horribly but the Padres keep losing so I still have hope they can turn it around and take the title. I wonder if it would be better if the Padres would win ten straight and then the Diamondbacks can play all the young guys?

Vargas running half a$$ to first is unacceptable. I don't care if the score is 6-0, you run as hard as you can. I wonder if Melvin will do anything?

Sorry Zona, it's not just the Padres we have to worry about. The Giants and the Dodgers are coming up on us and they're getting guys like Barry Bonds and JD Drew back sometime before the season ends. And the Padres are going to get Khalil Greene and Adam Eaton back. I'd like to see the D-Backs make a run as well but it's very, very unlikely.

Do the Diamondbacks have the guts to fire Melvin tonight? This team looks horrible. Maybe they can bring in someone who will wake this team up. That Vargas play is typical of the attitude the players are taking. No way should this team be playing so bad at home.

NEWSFLASH: Bad teams do not play well at home or on the road.

They might be bad but they are not showing any emotion. It's like they are going through the motions. The manager needs to be held accountable.

No Mas!!

I've tried to remain optimistic...I've tried to keep the faith as the Padres played baseball as crappily as us...I've tried to justify the competence of the coaching staff...however, tonight finally (?) proves once and for all that we are nothing but mere pretenders, and it's time to bring up the kids to see what they can do.

Oh, and get the coaching staff the hell out of town please!! Like Zona said, this team plays with Z E R O passion or heart, and that is a direct reflection of the manager. It really sucks that I had more fun watching last year's train wreck, as bad as they were, because I think we could have done so much better with who we have right now.

Oh I agree, but the team really isn't any good so I'm always confused whem people talk about underachieving and the sort. I personally don't think the team would be all that much better even if Melvin did instill some fire into them.

Fact remains that the entire organization needs an overhaul and I don't think we have the right people in place to accomplish that simply because those in charge seem to feel the organization needs no such sweeping changes.

I'm very afraid you are right Mao. It just smacks of same old-same old.

I left the game at 11-1 tonight, after pretty much laughing through that god-forsaken inning.

A friend said, "You know, I bet right about now even Melvin is wishing Backman hadn't been a drunk."

I am not concerned about a pitcher running full speed to first base..his job is to get guys out...and the Dbacks problems is they need a manager to motivate...I couldnt believe the Dbacks hiring Melvin, I moved here last year from seattle, and after Melvin managing the Mariners I was glad to get away from him ...thinking this guy sucks, than after moving here the Dbacks hire him..."NO" was what I was thinking..........

"My" Vegas odds.

Ortiz throwing a perfect game 1,000,000,000,000:1

Ortiz no hitter ?

Ortiz shutout?

Ortiz complete game?

Ortiz getting a win?

Ortiz lasting 5 innings?

Ortiz giving up less than 6 runs?

Ortiz is just horrible. I would put him in the bullpen. Maybe they can trade Ortiz in the offseason for a can of spam?

Only the Diamondbacks could give up two runs on a double play.

We'd have to throw in Conor Jackson and Carlos Quentin just to get that can of spam for Ortiz.

The guy needs to be DFA'd tomorrow but you know our front office won't admit their mistakes.

7-0 going to the bottom of the third. What a freaking joke Ortiz and this team are. Maybe another double gigit loss will get Melin canned. The team has quit.

How many times can they put this guy out there to throw BP?

They should make this the bat boy.

Or make him sit out there along the foul line and wear one of those "Golden Glovers" unis.

If I have to keep hearing Brenneman's BS spin I'm going to vomit.

Wouldn't it be great if Grace had another microphone snafu and totally went off on everything that's wrong with this team?

At this point I'd think the media would give him major praise instead of the hassle he got over the Snider comments.

Yes

At least 2 touchdowns.

But that is pretty much a given. The bigger mystery is how many runs will the anemic Dbacks manage?

1, 2 or 3?
