Well, we've reached the end, the final series of the season. Sunday we say goodbye to Gonzo and company at what is assured to be a memorable game. Peavy pitches against Batista tomorrow.

Guess the Pads wanted to give Hoffman more of a chance to win the Cy Young award.

Judging from the lineup it wasn't like Melvin was looking to get Webb another win for the season. I'm sorry, I don't see the need to have Counsell play this entire weekend and today. It's not even a foregone conclusion that he's not coming back.

Of course, Webb must have felt it best to save his worst game of the season for his last. I'd hope that the voters don't just look at one game and make their decision, but anyone who was leaning towards Carpenter or Hoffman certainly gets an extra push that direction because of today.

I'm pretty sure seeing as they put the number 4 on the field and that Counsell has said he isn't coming back that it was a foregone conclusion.
As for the end of the game that was a big time blown call. What a way for the season to end. Although it was kind of cool to see the young guys lead the charge in the bottom of the ninth. You could almost feel the old guard hand the torch to the new guys.

What the hell?! the umpires totally got that call wrong! He didn't tag second base!

Gah! this is one of the reasons we need replay in baseball.

Umpiring was horrid to end it. The 2nd base umpire probably forgot it was a force and called him safe, then realized it was a force and that the throw beat him so he changed it. Problem was Greene didn't have his foot on the base, so he was safe anyways. Really awful way to end the season, just awful.

I almost feel betrayed by MLB after that...such a bullsh!t call. I know nothing but pride was on the line for us, but it didn't have to end our season on such a terrible call.

Could have been worse. I saw an umpire throw a Robby Hammock out of a game that was already over in the minor leagues this year. i expected the ump to throw Melvin out of the just concluded game. That would have made it a bigger joke.
