Well, I'm watching even if nobody else is.

Randy Johnson. I pray recent showings are an aberration but fear they are not.

6-0 Twins in the 3rd. The Diamondbacks squandered scoring chances in the first & second and now the Twins are hitting RJ hard. Not a good start to this 9-game road trip.

Ugh. Randy is who we feared he was. And Todd Walsh's report of Hudson having to step in to keep peace between Randy and Montero is no surprise.

This is on management for bringing RJ back here.

I recall Kevin McCabe saying this team was fools gold back when they were red hot. At the time, I thought he was going the opposite end of the spectrum simply to generate calls or whatever. I obviously knew the Dbacks wouldn't keep up the torrid pace but the more I watch this team, the more I think McCabe was right on the money.

Horrible way to start a road trip.

Melvin lets RJ pitch the entire game last night so the bullpen can get some rest but Micah was gassed starting the 7th and he left him in at least one batter too long. He had 100 pitches, which is too many for him.

Melvin is just like Brenly in that they both can't make the right pitching decisions.

Rough inning, Qualls wasn't fooling anybody. Unusual game for him.

I'm still not worried, but we're lucky that the NL West sucks right now so we don't need a huge winning streak like we did last year to put us in a good position for the playoffs. This team is better than they are playing and will eventually pick it up, but for now they are very hard to watch. Lets hope Byrnes can start stealing some bases in the 2nd half and we can get some small ball going to help out the pitchers.

One good thing is that Upton and Young, unlike Reynolds, seem to have some sense of when to swing the bat and when not to. Things will get better, hopefully by October.

CoJack playing outfield in the Metrodome? Wow... why would Melvin do that? The mad scientist strikes again as this team continues to shoot itself, not in the foot, but in the face.... multiple times.

That doesn't even begin to describe the 'baseball' that is being played by this team. I would like to see some fire from the dugout or Melvin in a post-game interview... but once again, my hopes will be dashed. I can see it now, 'Webb pitched good, just one little miscue led to a big inning. I think we can turn it around, yadda yadda yadda.' How about getting back to fundamentals? Learning to move runners over, catching pop-ups, fielding well. I want to see a tirade like the one from Bull Durham... but it ain't gonna happen.

This team has no emotion, it's disgusting. They look so defeated out there. If they lose today they very well could go 0-9 on this road trip.

Not a fun series, the starting pitching has been extremely disappointing as of late. Its tough to win when your team's strength is struggling like this.

This team needs to change its name to "The Arizona Tin Men"

Maybe they can go see the wizard in Boston and ask him for a real heart.

Yeah, I've been trying to believe it's just a funk and that it won't last long, but there is not much hope coming from the dugout. Melvin is a problem.

This team is just pathetic right now. I don't know what needs to be done but something has to change.

This team has become a positively abysmal baseball club in a simply terrible division. Rumor has it they're going to move the entire NL West down to Double-A immediately after the All Star break...

This is no longer a slump. It's a team playing horribly... and with no spark, drive, enthusiasm or real will to win. And guess what? Now it's on to Boston!!! Wheeeeeeeee!!!!!!

BDD, you hit a couple of points dead on.
1. Melvin would do well to give a Bull Durham performance... NOW.
2. This team is very bad on fundamentals. I've always wondered how a player gets to the major leagues with such horrid fundamentals.... This is the stuff that should have been taken care of in spring training, but wasn't, so Clarabelle (BoMel) and crew had better get to work.

Additionally...
3. RJ is done as a starter. Get him out of the friggin' rotation and get him into the bullpen. Send Gonzalez down to the minors, and get someone (either from the farm or through trade/purchase) to take the vacant starting spot.

4. Get Upton down to AAA until he works out his troubles. He stinks. Again, note that I didn't say throw him away, but he's not getting fixed up here in the Majors.

5. Reynolds needs more time on the bench until he is cured of rectal/cranial inversion. Yep, he can hit a ball a mile, but the fact remains he's killing us with all those k's. BTW.... Do we actually have a hitting coach? :sarcasm:

6. Speaking of specialty coaches, do we actually have a pitching coach? Webb hasn't been fooling anyone of late (hidden injury, perhaps? Or just doing something wrong?). The bullpen hasn't exactly been stellar, either.

There's more, but these would do for the immediate. I most sincerely hope we don't become a first place team with a losing record. That would be doubly humiliating.....

Hopefully Matt Torra will kick a$$ in Tucson(so far 2 great starts) and be brought up later this year.

That's the thing that's so disheartening. That and the way Webb seemed to panic and start throwing fastball after fastball, after the freakish 5th inning start, instead of sticking with what he does best.

Team? We have no team right now, just 25 guys playing scared with no confidence in each other.

On the subject of fundamentals...one of the broadcasts, Grace was discussing the lack of infield work being done anymore at the ML level. He said something like when he came up to the bigs, they took infielding practice everyday, then it went to before the first game of every series and now they rarely do any fielding work at all. I don't recall the exact quote but that was the jist of it.

It explains alot of things about this team but I have never bought into the youth thing as it pertains to fielding. This is basbeall, played the same way from Little League all the way to MLB. When my 9 year old Little Leaguer asks basic questions wondering what the hell the dbacks players are doing in the field, that is truly pathetic fielding we are watching.

This team was never as good as they started but I still fail to accept they are this bad either.
