I only love the idea if Superman kicks the crap out of Batman. Any other outcome is completely stupid.

In this story, all super heroes are outlawed except for Superman, who now works exclusively for the US Government. Superman has plenty of time for missile crisis and protecting US interests, but none for day to day crime fighting. Batman comes out of retirement and starts fighting crime again. Superman is sent to capture Batman.

Batman kicks the living **** out of Superman with the help of Green Arrow (who has had his arm chopped off so he can't be a hero anymore) and some Kryptonite.

This is all from memory like 20 years ago when I read it but I think it is pretty close to accurate

Why would they fight?

Lots of reasons, ego being the biggest. Without introducing Kryptonite, how does Batman stand a chance?

I hope they call it "World's Finest", but we will probably get a stupid "vs" title.

Didn't Superman give Batman a Kryptonite ring? Or is the Hush storyline not canon.

It's canon. Batman (the only ordinary human without inanate powers) has all the different forms of destruction for the various members of the JLA as a failsafe in case they "break bad".

Not to nit-pick, but Supes tore Oliver's (Green Arrow) arm off...if I recall. Minor difference, I know, but just saying. LOL

Here is an idea: how about an original plot.

For example: Batman and Superman team up with Optimus Prime to battle Decepticons.

Wheeeee!

In the Dark Knight Returns comics, it's a pretty elaborate scheme with help from the Former Green Arrow involving a power suit and Kryptonite.

My guess is in the current iteration of the movies that, short of introducing Kryptonite, Bruce Wayne would discern (maybe with the help of Lex Luthor?) a weakness from an autopsy of Zod's corpse.

As for why they would fight, I would envision Bruce Wayne and/or Lex Luthor having a "9-11 moment" call-to-action while watching the destruction of Metropolis on CNN, and blaming it on Superman...or something along those lines.

It would have be a story with a lot of moving parts. Not that it couldn't be done well, I just don't think that the Zack Snyder/David Goyer creative team would be up for the task.

In my opinion, Snyder's best screen work has come from adaptations of previous great works (ie. Frank Miller's 300 and Alan Moore's The Watchmen).

Zack Snyder is quickly becoming the M. Knight Shyamalan of the comic book movie genre in my mind. "Man of Steel" is his "Signs"; a good movie that I enjoyed despite it's glaring problems.

interesting comparison...only made scarier by the fact that Knight's next three movies after Signs (which I'm in agreement with you on) were The Village, Lady In The Water and Beware The Wind and Grass...otherwise known as The Crappening.

And Zach Snyder never made a movie as good as Sixth Sense.

Don't like Snyder, but I would give Goyer the benefit of the doubt at this point. He DID write Dark City, Batman Begins and wrote the story for The Dark Knight, after all.

yeah...but he also wrote Man Of Steel, Jumper, Blade Trinity and only wrote the Story for TDK. can't quibble with Dark City or Batman Begins. Both of those are great movies, especially Dark City which is a personal favorite of mine. But his BEST work has come while working with incredible directors, who have vision beyond visuals...if that makes sense. Snyder has yet to really show me much of that.

Bottom line for me? Goyer is a very good writer and a great writer under certain circumstances, but I'm leery of this match-up on it's face anyway...especially when Batman hasn't even been introduced in that universe yet (there's no way they link the Nolanverse to Snyder's).

Don't forget his "Dawn of the Dead" remake, which was also a really good effort. He does well with other people's source material. I think he gave us the best possible adaptation of "Watchmen" that we could have hoped for in a single film. I still like him as a director. The potential is there, he just hasn't fully tapped it yet, which is frustrating.

Goyer was only the writer of Jumper, not the director.

Forgot about Dawn Of The Dead. That was actually a pretty solid movie.

Oh....

Oh... no...

I know Affleck has beefed up his cred over the last 4 or 5 years, but I cant picture this going well.
