Not sure what the Dbacks are doing - I like the Clayton move, Counsell doesn't make sense UNLESS there is a big trade brewing, and Hairston is apart of it.

The D'backs are going to sign Clayton and Counsell to -1-improve their league-worst defense and -2- add some maturity to the team. That makes sense.

Apparently Counsell is slated to be the everyday 2B. We need a leadoff hitter. Especially the best 2-strike hitter in the game. Craig is fearless when he has 2 strikes on him.

He's not going to put up all-star stats, but he's the kind of player who does the right thing at the right time. His intangeables are going to make a difference in the W-L column.

Yes, Counsell was my favorite D'back when he was here. But my first reaction was, "Why turn back the clock?". After thinking about it, I do believe that his return for a couple of years will help the team.

I also liked David Dellucci, but I don't think he'll help the team as an everyday RF. I hope he continues to reject the D'backs offer.

The improvement of our defense was a necessity and if that meant Hairston was going to get benched or traded that's fine by me. We may miss his offense, but his defense was so bad that they nearly cancelled each other out. He won't hit enough to last in the OF in the bigs either. I never thought Kata was any good and Cintron's switch-hitting hacking approach at the plate may be best suited for pinch hitting anyways. It looks like Burnitz, Estes, and Dellucci all have Joe Jr's eye. I doubt that's enough to make Randy want to stay.

Heck, it's not enough to make ME want to stay! :p
We will overpay Counse on an overlong contract -- for a guy whom I adored, but he is so clearly on the fast downside of his career. This just keeps feeling like - you're totally broke, can't pay the bills, you find a hundred bucks so you blow it on taking the kids to McDonald's.

I was so sick of seeing Counsell hit lazy pop flies, I thought I was going to puke, both his and Clayton's defensive prowess better make up for their horrendous offensive capabilities...

Isn't that Tony Womack you're talking about? I don't remember Counsell ever trying to hit 'em in the air.

No, counsell's loopy swing provides a fair share of lazy pop ups.

Two years at $2.8 Million is the report - that's about 40% more than he should be paid. He doesn't have speed, his numbers - all of them - have been in steady decline - Fan Pandering at its basest. I hope he still shows the hustle. It's not like he'll be a good role model for young players, since there will only be about two of them on the team.

Retreads - Check! Has-beens - Check! Mediocre pitching - Check! Injury-prone - Check!

I agree. I just don't think Counsell will give us much this year or next. As for providing leadership to all the young players just how many of them will be left. This is looking more and more as a vetren team with less pitching and talent than our WS year.

You mean a veteran team with less pitching, less depth, and less talent than our WS year? Hmmm....

Hope the Johnson trade pans out better than we all expected....
