Most people forget he played baseball. He could really bring the heat. Tall and lanky with a wip-saw motion. I saw him throw a complete game shut-out. Everyone was shocked when he went to the NBA which in the early 60's was nothing to speak of.

Scary stuff. He was an athlete and looked like he stayed in shape. I'm one year older, 50 pounds heavier and in lousy shape - a wake-up call for all of us over 45.

When Dave came aboard, the Knicks had assembled a pretty good core of players - including Frazier, Bradley, Willis Reed, Bad News Barnes. But they just couldn't get over the hump. Then they traded Bellamy and Komives to Detroit for Dave B and the Knicks were automatically a playoff team. He added the glue that got them to play well together.

Terrific individual in addition to being a great basketball player.
